☑ ︎ "I want to increase the variation of finishing!"

☑ ︎ "I want to use the gradation map for processing!"

☑ ︎ "Layer composition mode, I don't understand it just by looking at the text... I want to check it intuitively with the image!"

This article is about ``Let's try a very simple finishing process that only creates one layer! It is a TIPS with the content.

CLIP STUDIO ASSETS publishes many "gradation sets".

The author has also released some materials, among which there is a gradation set that explains, "You can change the composition mode and use it like a 'filter for a camera app.'"

However, even if I say "change the blending mode of the gradation map" in the sentence, there are many blending modes, and some people may not be able to understand it...?

If you look at the image, it may be easy to get an image! That's why I created this article.

For Beginners ・What is "Synthesis Mode"?

This is a function that can be used from the layer property and can apply effects to the layer itself.

The default is 'Normal' and you can select a different blending mode by opening the pull-down menu.

Comparison, multiplication, imprinting... it's hard to understand even if you look at the letters!

For the time being, there may be quite a few people who are trying to synthesize them in order from the top ...?

(I often do this too)

This is a list of blending modes installed in CLIP STUDIO PAINT.

The effects can be roughly divided into categories and explained as follows.

Take a look at the images!

A blue gradation is superimposed on the upper left sample image.

For Beginners ・What is "Gradient Map"?

To explain it very roughly, this gray picture using the above gradation set

It's something you can do like this.

The left side of the gradation corresponds to dark areas, and the right side corresponds to bright areas.

This is a very useful feature that allows you to easily change the impression of the screen with just a few clicks!

It's cute even if you use it for coloring gray comics ◎

As you can see in the FAQ above, the gradation map is

There are two methods: [Use on tonal correction layer] and [Apply directly to layer].

In this article, we will use the former [How to use a tonal correction layer] for finishing.

How to introduce Gradient Map and other ways to use it are explained in this TIPS.

Finished list by "gradation map + change of blending mode"

Now that you know how to use blending modes and gradient maps, let's actually do it.

Here is the layer structure:

Just create a gradation map layer of your favorite color on top and change the blending mode and layer density!

(It's OK if the gradation map layer is on top, so it doesn't matter how many layers are below it)

Let's adjust the gradation color, blending mode, and layer density to make it look "good"!

In the sample images below, we will compare the layer density of the gradation map at 100% and 40% side by side.

▼ Change the blending mode of the light color gradation map

This is a composite list of "Sunrise (brighter)" from the preset gradation set "Sky".

Combining light gradations creates a soft and gentle atmosphere.

▼ Change the blending mode of the dark color gradation map

This is a composite list of "Sunset (purple)" from the preset gradation set "Sky".

Synthesizing a dark color gradation gives a sharp effect.

▼ Change the blending mode of the colorful gradation map

Now that you've gotten used to it, let's venture out and use colorful gradients!

I dared to create and synthesize a gradation that says, "I don't usually use it."

Wow────! ! Too much! ?

In particular, the normal layer 100% on the left is in trouble.

However, strangely, when you change the blending mode or layer density, a miracle that "something feels good" may occur.

Fresh colors that you don't usually try...?

I think this coincidence is also one of the ways to enjoy gradation maps!

With so many options, it can be hard to decide which one to choose!

Since there are infinite combinations of blending modes and gradations,

Anyway, I would appreciate it if you thought, "It looks like it's going to be fun, so let's do it!"

In addition to the materials introduced in this article, there are many gradation sets created by users, so please search for your favorite set.
