Hello.

This month I would like to share tips on how to draw sweets.

First of all, I created a table of contents for the steps to complete the illustration.

【table of contents】

  • 1, Draft

  • 2, line drawing

  • 3. Undercoat

  • 4. Fill in

  • 5. Finishing

I would like to draw an illustration using this procedure.

[1. Draft]

The key to sketching is to draw the rough shape.

In this way, you can lower the psychological hurdles to start drawing illustrations.

Also, if you want to create an illustration that looks delicious, we recommend drawing quickly when you're a little hungry, just like sketching.

This will add a delicious atmosphere to the picture you draw.

(Of course, as a reference photo, choose an image of the sweets you want to eat!)

[2. Line drawing]

The details of the sweets will look more delicious if you color them in, so the key to drawing the line drawings is to draw the outline properly.

(Do not overdo the line drawings for sweets illustrations!)

[3. Undercoat]

Undercoating means applying the unique color of the object you are drawing.

Intrinsic color is the color of an object itself that can be seen under ordinary light, without being affected by the reflection of colors of other objects or the colors of neighboring objects.

[4. Drawing 1]

From here, we will express the reality of the sweets by coloring.

However, please do not draw directly on the underpainted layer.

This is because if you separate the layers, if you make a mistake, it will be easier to correct it, and you can easily apply the appropriate color using layer settings (multiply layer, screen layer, etc.) .

The trick to drawing on baked goods is to paint dark colors like burnt first, then paint the bright areas that are hit by light.

At first, paint the multiplication layer's color by picking up the unique color with an eyedropper. Then, adjust the color tone little by little by comparing it with the reference photo.

The key is to use the unique color of the undercoat layer and the shade color of the multiplication layer to give the sweets a three-dimensional effect.

When drawing browned marks on baked goods such as pancakes and cupcakes, the recommended brush is <Brush → Watercolor → Smeared Edge Watercolor>.

For cold sweets like jelly beans, candy, chocolate, and soft serve ice cream, adjust the density and amount of paint with an opaque watercolor brush or airbrush, and use the color mixing tool to create a blurred yet smooth texture. I'm going to get into it.

Here I will introduce you to some tips on how to draw.

When drawing hard, translucent food, you can create a smoother, harder texture by increasing the contrast.

[4. Drawing 2]

Next, add highlights while paying attention to the position of the light source.

Create a new layer and set the layer setting to screen. Lay this screen layer on top of the multiply layer.

The key to coloring is to not blur the side with the light source too much, and use a color mixing tool to blur the other side to blend it into the picture below.

Highly transparent sweets such as candy and jelly can be made more transparent by using a screen layer to brighten the direction of the light source and then layering an addition (emission) layer on top of that to further increase the contrast difference. I can.

[5. Finishing]

Combine the copies of the illustration you have drawn (filling layer only) into one layer (Layer → Combine copies of visible layer). Set the layer settings of the copied integrated layer to burn color, lower the opacity to 15%, and layer it on top of the sweets illustration (filling layer).

This allows you to add depth to the fill color.

Finally, adjust the color of the line drawing. Above the line art layer, place a layer (painting2 layer) that copies and merges the fill layer. After that, blur this integrated layer by 10~12G using <Filter → Blur → Gaussian Blur>. For this integrated layer, set the layer settings to Linear Light, clip it to the line drawing layer below, and lower the opacity to about 50%, and the illustration is complete.

This concludes the introduction of tips on how to draw sweets illustrations.

I hope this TIPS will be helpful to you.

Thank you for reading to the end.
