Hellooo! In this tutorial I will teach how to draw ruffles and ways to create lace with unique designs, as well as other simpler alternatives to make them.

Steering wheels

When drawing clothing in general, the fabric moves in a different way due to its design. In the case of ruffles, the shape of the fabric is due to its design. They can be discreet or very marked, as in the following examples.

Ruffles can be made with random lines following the top of the dress or clothing where the fabric meets.

In several cases it also has to do with the movement of the fabric, which direction it will go.

The fold lines should always go towards the seam points (red color in this case)

In these cases the movement of the skirts is not static so you have to see the structure of the skirt and the shape it is made with the movement.

It is good to see references to understand the structure of the movement

In number 1 you can see that we could vary the shape of the ruffles or their movement by making other shapes to the lines.

In this example we can see how we can do it step by step, in number 1 you can make a line with a random shape and in step 2 put the places where the folds are seen and in step 3 highlight the details so that it can be seen. more realistic.

In this example the ruffles are smaller but there are more in quantity, in this example I put drawing 3 as a demonstration of how it would look with details

The last example is seen from another perspective, in the drawings of various colors it is seen how the purple lines point in the same direction, this makes it look more realistic and coherent since it follows a movement from a specific point.

One more example: When drawing a line, in this way we can construct the folds that will be made in different ways.

In this example you see the back of the fabric, like the bottom of the dress or clothing.

We put the divisions of the fabric and its folds

As a last example, this dress has several ruffles, all the lines where the folds are made point upwards where the division of the waist and skirt of the dress is located.

Lace

To start with the lace design, it is good to rely on internet references to make it more original.

We start by configuring the layer so that when drawing you can see the edges, setting the configuration that is shown on the screen.

To be more precise we can use the symmetry rule and have a better presentation

This is an example using this method

We can also draw the lace by hand, an example could be to grid the part we want and start drawing figures with a specific pattern.

We can fill it in the way you prefer, with pure lines or movements to make it look more realistic.

This is how it would look finished

1.1 Create lace brush

In the upper window in the [Edit] part we select [Register material] and [image]

We will use the lace design from the beginning

1. We give it a name

2. We select the option [Use as brush tip shape]

3. And we save wherever we want

Then we duplicate a brush of our choice and select the tool icon and edit the brush.

Where it says [Brush Tip] we add the image that we saved as a material previously and edit the brush to our preference.

1.2 Resources or materials

In Clip Studio there are a variety of resources to facilitate the drawing process, in this case to make ruffles and lace.

These are examples taking up resources

The dress can be seen better if we render it but since it is an example I left it like this.

To make the lace look more stylized, we can select an area and paint with the lace brush or add the image we need.

Well this would be all for now, I hope the tutorial has been useful to you and you take it into account when drawing.

Thank you very much for watching until the end!
