Hi everyone! My name is Curfew and Today I will be providing tips on how create a movie poster.

These tips will help guide you on creating a movie poster to captivate and encourage your audience to watch your movie!

TIP #1 BRAINSTORMING: What do I want the audience to know just by seeing the movie poster.

First thing to think about is, what do I want to audience to vision on what the movie will be about just by seeing the movie poster?

It’s important to have an understanding of what you want to present before beginning the process of creating a movie poster. You have to remember that the movie poster is the sole purpose and still image of what movie will potentially be about.

to give an understanding of what I’m talking about is I will be creating a movie poster using a scenario real quick.

Scenario: I want to create a movie poster about a man who is stuck in a house during a zombie apocalypse

TIP #2 BRAINSTORMING: Sketching the Poster

Before sketching the poster it’s important to know what you want to stand out in the poster.

For example, the man is the prime subject of the poster, the whole movie is about him! Therefore, it’s important for him to be big and visible to the audience from a far distance.

Next depends on whether or not you want the plot to be known. For this scenario I want the audience to understand that there is something sinister going on in the background. Which will engage the audience to be curious on what’s happening, without giving too much detail.

What I did in the sketch is added a few things in order to make it look like a horror film. For instance, the door represents home or somewhere safe and the window represents inside of a home and the handprints represent the zombies outside.

I wanted to make the eyes stand out the most since I wanted to showcase true fear on what the main character is feeling as the action is happening in the background.

Small Tip: Background and simplistic imagery can add more of a story! However complex designs can be good too!

TIP #3 Creating The Scene: Adding The Atmosphere.

This process can be up to you to decide. Since many movie posters have different types of styles, however it’s important to make sure that the atmosphere is consistent with what you are trying to say to the audience of what your movie is going to be about.

For example, if you want to portray a happy movie that involves positive, fun and energetic moments, using colors such as yellow can bring that emotion to the audience.

If you are trying to show a heavy action movie, using colors such as dark blues and striking red would be the best option to use!

I’m going to be using black and white to show that this is a horror movie!

TIP #4 TITLE: Adding the final touch

This step can be done in any time during the process of creating a movie poster. However, since this was a quick concept, I wanted to do it last.

The important of the title is vital since the title is the main connection of what the audience will know it as.

For this example, I decided to name the movie “The Uninvited”

The concept of the title is straight forward. You don’t want zombies in your home, therefore they’re uninvited. The title can give away what your movie will be about or the idea of what the movie might touch upon.

There are some movies that even turn away from the title and can mean entirely different from the original concept. this all depends on what you want to portray your movie poster as.

It’s important to include a visible title and readable title, since it will help the audience read it.

You can find some font on Clip Studio Paint program! There are many to choose from!

These are a few tips and a quick process to help navigate on creating a movie poster!

I hope these small suggestions help you design and create a movie poster in the future! Thank you for reading!!
