Introduction

In this tutorial, we're going to use Clip Studio Paint's 3D models to create compositions with various characters.

Using 3D models will allow us to change angles of the scene easily, exploring different views without having to redraw. This saves time and gives you the freedom to experiment with different ideas quickly.

Compositions with several characters

Preparing the work area

Let's choose the characters that will participate in the scene.

Characters must be on the same layer, so that when you move, zoom, or rotate the camera, they move together.

Controls that move the scene

To move all the characters in the scene, we are going to use the first three controls found at the top of the 3D models.

The first control allows you to rotate the camera and change viewing angles.

The second control allows you to move the camera from left to right and up and down.

The third control allows you to zoom in or out the camera.

When the scene is finished, these controls will help us find the best angle for our illustration.

Add a floor or base to the scene

Before moving the characters individually, it is advisable to add a floor, as this will make it easier to adjust the position and poses of the models.

To add the floor, we can use the plane found in 3d materials (Primitive)

Let's add this plane to the scene and arrange it to simulate the floor.

Controls that mobilize characters individually

To move the characters individually we have these three controls:

These controls allow us to move, rotate and balance the character.

However, for these compositions with multiple characters, I have found it more useful and easier to use the controls that appear at the bottom when we click on the 3D model, since these allow us to move, rotate and balance the character without it moving from the ground.

Example:

Change of poses

To change the poses of the characters we can use the joint controls. I recommend that you add curves to the pose to make it look more dynamic.

We can also search for poses in Clip Studio Assets.

End the scene

After placing the characters and changing their poses, we can start looking for the best approach for our scene.

Now we can try out camera zooms and find an angle we like.

Example:

Use more 3d elements in the scene

Take advantage of the available 3D models to create your scene.

Final Tips

  • Experiment with different angles

Use references whenever possible – this will help your composition look more natural.

Adjust lighting and environment

Don't forget to review your scene at different stages: Conduct periodic reviews throughout the process to detect and correct problems before finalizing your composition.

Experiment and have fun: When creating scenes with 3D materials, take the opportunity to practice and improve your drawing skills. Use 3D models as references to explore new ideas and techniques.

Thank you very much for reading, I hope you found this tutorial useful.
