Introduction

This is an explanation of a material that can easily turn line art into speed lines.

Note: The speed line conversion material is a paid material.

There are three.

Only the newly created rotated versions can be purchased with Clippy for a limited time.

Please try them out if you like.

Use the one that suits the scene you want to draw.

They are convenient because you can complete action scenes or scenes with lots of movement, such as running, explosions, falling, and spinning, without having to draw a lot of lines.

↓By using 3D materials and LT conversion, you can create a background like this in a short amount of time.

This time, I'd like to illustrate how you can use the material in ways other than those described on the material description page.

I made it for monochrome manga manuscripts, but I think it will also be useful for creating dynamic concept art.

By executing auto actions on what you've drawn, you can add a sense of power to the action of fighting.

How to use

The basic steps for speed line creation are as follows.

・Adjust the position, size, and angle of the layer to create speed lines

・Execute auto action

・Add and adjust

Please see each material page for details.

In this TIPS, I will cover other things.

Adding touch-ups with an airbrush

If you lightly paint with a thick airbrush, the trajectory will be drawn nicely, which is useful when you want to add a little more.

In that case, I think it's better to use a ruler.

If you think it's too thick, you can easily adjust it by lightly erasing it with the airbrush.

The example is the rotation line version.

Create a selection

If you want to turn only part of a line drawing into a line drawing, select it with the lasso tool or similar and run an auto action to turn only that part into a speed line.

Here's an example of the rotated line version.

The lasso tool works well, but if you draw a vague boundary line on the clipping mask using an airbrush or something similar, it will turn into a speed line without suddenly turning it into a speed line.

↓The image on the left shows the selection made with the lasso tool, and the image on the right shows the borders blurred with the airbrush.

The blurring is a little different, making it hard to compare, but the left image has a section where the speed lines end abruptly, so I think the right image looks more natural.

Or you can use the Smudge tool to add to the border after running the auto action.

Try it out however you like.

Stack two line drawing layers

Even after the auto action is complete, it's difficult to convey the feeling of the bamboo sword being swung down by just blurring it once.

Duplicate the layer and blur the duplicated layer further.

For the blur direction, rather than selecting "Both", it's a good idea to select "Right rotation" or "Left rotation" depending on the movement.

The same applies to motion blur and radial blur.

Check the preview as you proceed.

It now looks a little like swinging a bamboo sword down.

Draw the trajectory.

Lightly paint with an airbrush and it's finished.

When you perform LT conversion, a white base is also created, but if you put that in the "Put original line art" folder and run the auto action, and if you have layers stacked as described above, changing the drawing color settings of the layer properties will change slightly as shown below, so please use it according to your preference.

The example is the parallel line version.

Painting with an airbrush

In the update on October 20, 2024, the auto action "Line drawing_Speed line drawing_Draw with airbrush" was added.

After executing the auto action, you will be able to draw with the airbrush from scratch instead of adding to it with the airbrush.

The image below is the rotated line version.

Here's a simple example, but if you draw a ball with a thin airbrush and then lightly paint it with a thick airbrush, the trajectory will be drawn and it will look nice.

If you want to add a trajectory, we recommend using an airbrush with a larger brush size that can lightly paint a wide area.

Try it out and find the airbrush that suits you best.

↓With the radial version, I was able to draw something that looks like an explosion in about 3 minutes.

First fill in, erase with a smoky silhouette, draw something that looks like a smoky shadow, and then add it with the fingertip tool. Finally, use the airbrush to soften the areas that seem too dark, or make them darker, or change the transparency of the layer to make some fine adjustments to get the desired look.

Example

Here are some examples that we couldn't fit on the material description page.

You can easily turn it into speed lines.

I think there are lots of possibilities with some creativity and ingenuity.

Radial

It can also be used for scenes where you see a suspicious shadow over there!

The image above looks a bit over the top though...

The example is a background material that came with Clip Studio Paint.

It can also draw things like flying slashing attacks.

By executing auto actions on the grid lines, you can create attacks that will turn you into a diced steak.

You can also make your bike go super fast.

Parallel Lines

↑3D materials

↑Speed line drawing created with LT conversion

↑ Add retouching with fingertip tool

Add tones to the folder that will be converted to speed lines

↑Speed line drawing of people

It makes it feel like the train is actually moving.

The above image uses official 3D materials from Clip Studio Paint.

By using a clipping plane in the rendering settings to separate the image and then using LT conversion, you can turn just the train into a speed line.

For more details, see the TIPS below.

It's also easy to drop it.

Rotation line

You can also spin the tires.

↑A layer template for transformation is used.

You can also fall over with force.

The End

I think it's useful and easy to add impact, so please feel free to use it if you like.

↑I also create various 3D materials, mainly for monochrome manuscripts, so please take a look if you're interested.
