Explanation of texture extraction auto action to save finishing time
※Materials including texture extraction auto actions have not yet been released due to the GOLD material review.
Please wait until they are released.
↑When you perform an auto action, an adjustment layer is created, and you can adjust the texture by changing the threshold.
Introduction
↑We have prepared an auto action that creates an adjustment layer to make it easier to cut out and adjust the texture part as explained in this TIPS.
In this TIPS, we will explain how to use this texture extraction auto action.
⚠️Caution
This is not a versatile tool.
This is not an auto action that can be used with any 3D material.
↑Some of the 3D materials currently on sale have automatic texture extraction actions added to improve work efficiency.
↑This is how to use the texture extraction auto action included with the 3D material displayed here.
How to use
First, add the auto action you downloaded.
Please see here ↓ for instructions.
Changing rendering settings cannot be automated, so you will need to create a layer for texture extraction before the auto action.
We will explain this using a Japanese-style room 3D material as an example.
Temporarily hide the layer created by LT conversion.
Display the 3D layer.
Turn off mask
When selecting a color range with auto action, it may not be possible to select properly, so please turn it off if there are masks such as frame folders.
Creating an Adjustment Layer
Change the rendering settings to create an adjustment layer.
In this example, the material is set to border 10.
In the rendering settings, turn off Add contour lines.
If it's on, not only the texture but also the lines will be displayed, which can be a bit distracting, so turn it off.
Also turn off Affected by light source, as shadows make it difficult to display the texture cleanly.
↑It will look like this, so next we will create a raster layer.
Turn on "Keep original layers" so that the 3D layers are not lost.
↓You can also "Convert layers" from the auto action.
It's a little easier to use "Convert Layers" from the auto action, as it will also delete rulers.
For material, select "Texture"
Once you have created a raster layer, select the 3D layer and set the material to "Texture."
Use auto action to select a color range from the color-coded parts of the texture.
The preparation is now complete.
Now, with the 3D layer selected, run the auto action.
Extract the texture.
I tried this on an iPad and there was a short wait time.
↑It will look like this when you're done.
They're all collected in a folder called Texture.
At the bottom, there is a layer for adjusting the original texture.
Just delete it if you don't need it.
↑You can adjust how textures are displayed by changing the color threshold.
Adjust each layer or delete unnecessary textures to suit your taste.
↑You can make adjustments like this.
First, adjustment layers for all textures will be created, but there may be cases where no textures are included.
For example, this time the floor is tatami, so the carpet is not displayed and no texture is included.
This is easy to understand, but there may also be cases where not all textures are displayed on the canvas depending on the angle, etc.
If no textures are displayed, the adjustment layer that was created will be empty.
If you create a selection from a layer (hold down ⌘ or Ctrl and click the layer icon), the layer will be empty so no selection will be created, so you can use that to check whether or not there is texture.
Please delete unnecessary layers manually.
Display the layer created by LT conversion and add the adjusted texture to complete the process.
↑The image on the right was created using an auto action, with a texture with adjusted color threshold added.
A few things to note when making adjustments
I would like to point out that doing this will likely expand the range of adjustments available.
Texture Contour
If the texture outline and the texture overlap, the color may become too dark.
In that case, the texture outline may get in the way.
↑ Texture outline and texture are both hidden
↑ The texture outline is displayed, but the texture is hidden.
↑ Both the texture outline and the texture are displayed
Create a selection from the adjustment layer in the "Texture" folder.
This will create a selection of the texture.
There are several ways to process the texture outline:
- Erase the texture outline
- Cut out, hide and keep for now
- Adjust the threshold of the cut out layer to make it visible
Do it the way you like.
↑The textures have been layered and the outlines of the textured areas have been erased.
Setting the drawing color of layer properties
The feel will change slightly depending on the drawing color setting in the layer properties.
Trying this out when considering the finish will give you a wider range of options.
The example shows a dark wood grain texture, with the "Wood grain_Ceiling_Roof edging" layers adjusted.
↑This is when the texture is not displayed.
↓This is an example of layering textures.
Please set it to your liking.
The End
I think it's convenient because you can add a nice texture in about 3 minutes.
It saves time by eliminating the need to add wood grain while keeping perspective in mind.
You can also adjust the color threshold to choose whether to add the texture lightly or strongly, depending on your preference.
Please feel free to use it.
