Introduction

Hey everybody, time for another tutorial from me. This one is about blending modes, and as such I have left out the portion of the shading, focusing only on what kind of blending modes I use to color. The layers you see here at the beginning are all set to Normal mode, so not that interesting anyway. But let's get started and look at the many blending modes I use for this type of painting.

Soft Light Blue

I start by creating a new layer on top of all the shading, setting it to soft light. Now I want two different colors for this, one for the character and another for the background. Seeing as the background takes up the most space, I start by flood filling the entire layer with a nice blue.

Soft Light Purple

Now on the same layer, I got in and paint over the character with a purple. The easiest way to do this (I think), is to set the layer back on Normal mode, lower the opacity slightly, then paint in the purple where it belongs. I just use the standard G-pen for this.

Soft Light Finished

Now I decided that all of the electronic parts should get the blue color, as well as his clothes, leaving only bare skin in the purple. The screenshot above shows the layer set back in Soft Light mode, at 100% opacity.
