(Video) Brushes in Clip Studio Paint for Concept Art
Video - Brushes in Clip Studio Paint for Concept Art
In this video I go over how you can use brushes in Clip Studio Paint to make concept art.
I work on a concept painting as I show in detail which brushes I use for which purpose and their settings.
*~ Description and info! ~*
Hello! I hope you find my video useful ~
I typed the captions for subtitles, please turn on the "CC" (closed captioning) button on the YouTube video window to read along with the spoken dialogue.
It is a bit long, but I hope you will enjoy tuning in and joining me as I paint and show you what brushes have what use along the way. It does not have music until the outro, because I understand the hearing impaired or those with sensory difficulties or trouble focusing (like me) may find it easier to listen to without music given the length of the video. (There is an outro music track however, after the spoken dialogue!)
Below, I will share some images with the brushes I use mostly for concept work, and explain why the brush settings work well for painting and sketching!
(You can easily make these kinds of brushes yourself or copy their settings.)
*~ Concept Brush ~*
This is the brush that I use most often for concept work! It uses a brush tip which comes with Clip Studio Paint, and I have set it to have a random opacity as well as opacity and size responding to pressure of the pen. The angle of the brush tip remains fixed while drawing.
Randomising the opacity value like this makes the brush have a subtle textured appearance as you draw, which I find very appealing as I sketch and paint.
*~ Wedge Brush ~*
This brush is very quick to draw with, and its blocky shape helps quickly draw in big areas of your painting or sketch. It isn't very high resolution, but it will work even on slower computers because it is very efficient! Even though it has no texture material applied, it still gives a subtle hint of texture due to opacity and stroke randomisation.
It is my second most used brush!
*~ Rough Brush ~*
Last but not least, this brush features a brush tip I created and this is also the most versatile of the brushes I am sharing here for this tutorial! At small sizes, it is great for writing or sketching! You can use it for paint strokes, too! And at large sizes, you can get a lot of texture with this brush over large areas! It's another go-to brush for my concept work.
