Hi guys, I’m Oneinthemoon and I’m back with a new tutorial: Mixing texture.

This is my favorite part since add textures and use bending mode to create somethings really special for your own. In this article, I’d like to show you my progress of mixing textures and show you some of my favorite textures I usually use. Have fun.

Start from line to base color

After line, paint a base color, then I changed the line to another color by Clip to Layer

I added shadow into main character by adding brush texture, then change the shadow layer mode from Normal to Soft light, change opacity (optional)

Mixing textures

Strat from the most bottom layer, add a texture layer

And add more texture above the first texture layer, change the mode to multiply

Then clear some texture inside the character

To make the character more abstract, add a texture at the most upper layer. Change mode to Vivid light, and reduce opacity.

To this step, I could stop, but then I feel the color looks boring, so I decided change to another texture.

Then I kept adding another texture layer above but change it's mode to Divide

This looks crazy when it's too much color so I combined the first texture I mixed with the second texture I mixed. Remember, when you mix too much texture, you have to set one of them in Multiply

This time, I feel my painting is more color and looks cool, then I add the skin texture

Now you can see, mixing textures is really fun because it will get a random unique texture in the final. My advice is whenever you add more texture, your canvas has a different and unique color. There are no rule in bleeding layers, keep trying new mode, you'll get a new texture.

In the final, to make background more interesting, I added some details and changed the mode to Grow Dodge or Add Grow

In summary, you can create your own texture by mixing and changing the mode with opacity in basic free textures. Don’t worry if the color doesn’t look like what you want, keep adding texture layers and change the mode. Hope you have fun with bleeding textures.

Thank you for reading (´▽`)

Materials I used

This is the textures I used. But you can use whatever textures you like and many numbers of textures you want. However, in this painting, I used 3~4 textures
