In this course, we will explain the animation production process at CLIP STUDIO PAINT based on the method of digital animation work of Nippon Animation Co., Ltd.

  • This article is in Japanese. Machine translations are available for sites other than Japanese.

I will explain the video work using "CLIP STUDIO PAINT".

First of all, in CLIP STUDIO PAINT, create a new file that will be the cut bag.

[1] Settings in the [New] dialog

First, create a new cut folder.

Select [File] menu-> [New] in the menu bar. The [New] dialog is displayed. Enter the settings.

① Set [Use of work] to [Animation].

② Enter the [File name]. (This time it's called "Nataiken", but there is a naming convention depending on the work. Please check each department and naming convention when working.)

③ Set [Standard size]. Although it depends on the work, the standard size [width] 1600 [height] 900 of 100F, which is generally used by Nippon Animation Co., Ltd., is driven in. Enter "160dpi" for the resolution.

④ Set [Draw size]. [Drawing size] is a setting field for writing size. If you enter this number, you can select [Whole] or [Drawing size] when exporting. This time, set the same value as [Standard size]. * For large format printing, change the setting of this value.

⑤ Set the [Margin size]. [Upper] 284, [Lower] 140, [Right] 136, [Left] 136.

⑥ Set [Frame rate]. In general Japanese animation, the frame rate is "24".

⑦ Set [Playback time]. Enter the number of frames that is the cut specification. This time, set the numerical value of "2 + 0" = "48" frame.

Entering a number in [Frame (1 start)] makes it easier to type in the timeline later.

  • From the tab next to the playback time, set the value to [Seconds + Frames], enter a number, and then change the tab to [Frames (1 start)]. ] Will be calculated and displayed.

⑥ Set [Cut template]. Select "NA_Video template ver01_Company 160dpi" from the template. If you load a template here, it will be loaded to the [Layer] palette when creating a [New] cut folder.

After entering all, press "OK" at the top of the screen.

<Register to preset>

It is possible to set up [Preset] for some items set in the [New] dialog. Let's register the Fix size setting that was just input to [Preset].

① After setting [Standard size] [Drawing size] [Margins] [Frame rate] [Cut template], press the registration button next to [Preset].

(2) The [Register to preset] dialog box is displayed. Enter an arbitrary name in [Preset name].

③ Check [Resolution] [Frame rate] [Cut template] [Basic expression color] in [Items to include in preset] and press [OK].

If you [Register to preset] in the above method, you can select the registered setting at any time by pressing the button next to [Preset].

[POINT]

Please refer to the size chart below when setting a value other than 100 frame at 160 dpi.

When creating a large size, leave the [Standard size] as 100frame and set a large size in [Drawing size].

  • To change the size after creating the cut folder, you can change the [Screen size] from the [Page management] menu → [Change basic page settings].

[2] Save cut folder

After creating a cut folder, be sure to [Save].

(1) Click [Save As] on the command bar.

  • Immediately after creating a new cut folder, you cannot "save" (= overwrite), so [Save As].

② Save the cut folder in an easy-to-understand location on your PC.

The CLIP STUDIO PAINT data is saved in the format [.clip (CLIP STUDIO FORMAT)].

[3] When creating a template for your own layout

The layout paper you want to work with and the standard resolution are different from those of Nippon Animation Co., Ltd. You can also use the distributed material "Na_Video Template ver03" to create a layout image template.

In order to create a template, you need to know the [margin] values on the left, right, top, bottom, and [frame] and [height] [resolution] 7 points of 100 frames.

If you have layout scan data, we will measure each size based on that.

■ 1. Read the layout image

Load your own LO paper from the [File] menu → [Read] → [Image] on the menu bar.

■ 2. Measure the margin size of the layout

Measure the margin size of the loaded layout paper.

If you measure and enter the value of the margin outside 100 frame in [New dialog] when creating a cut folder, the [Draw size] and [Margin] will fit exactly to the loaded LO paper.

I will introduce two methods to measure the margin size.

<How to measure the margin size ①>

To measure the margin size, press the [Edit] menu → [Change Canvas Size] on the menu bar.

While checking the values displayed in the [Resize Canvas] dialog, take notes and measure the margins. If you write down the value, cancel [Canvas Resize].

<How to measure the margin size ②>

Open the Information palette from the Window menu on the menu bar.

Use [Rectangle Select] on the command bar to enclose the margin.

The numbers in the selected range will be displayed on the [Information] palette. Measure them vertically and horizontally and make a note of the numbers in the margins.

Make a note of the margin values that will be used when registering the preset.

■ 3. Check the resolution of LO paper

Check the “resolution” of the LO paper you are loading. Press [Page Management] → [Change Basic Page Settings] on the menu bar.

Since you can see the size and resolution of the image you are opening, make a note of only the [Resolution] number.

  • If you want to match the final image size with the LO image data, make a note of [Width] and [Height] and use them when adjusting the margin values. (Refer to "[POINT] When the margin needs to be adjusted")

■ Check the size of 4.100 frame

Check the aspect ratio size of 100frame.

If there are "finishing notes" etc. for each work and you know the value of 100 frame size, make a note of that value.

If you don't know, measure the value of 100frame in the same way as when you set the margin. When you try to figure out 100 frame numbers yourself, make sure that the end of the number is even and even.

Make a note of the width and height of 100 frame.

■ 5. Rasterize an image to make it transparent

After confirming each value, prepare the LO frame and Tap image.

If the loaded image is [Image material layer], [Rasterize] to process the image once.

  • If the read data is already a raster layer, [Rasterize] is not necessary.

(1) Right-click the loaded image on the [Layer] palette and execute [Rasterize].

(2) Right-click and use the [Edit] menu-> [Tone Correction]-> [Level Correction] on the menu bar to adjust the bar to clarify the black and white contrast.

(3) Press the [Edit] menu → [Change brightness to transparency] on the menu bar to make the white part transparent.

The white part has become transparent.

■ 5. Image the tap hole

If you want to attach tap holes etc. to each original paper and export it, prepare an image with only tap holes.

(1) On the [Layer] palette, right-click the "LOframe" layer and select [Duplicate Layer].

② Select the duplicated layer.

(3) Select the area other than the tap holes of the copied layer with [Rectangle] on the [Command Bar].

④ Use the menu bar [Edit] → [Delete] to delete the selected area.

⑤ Change the name to “Tap”.

"Tap" is the layer of tap holes

"LO frame" is now a layer of layout paper.

In addition, each layer is made into an image material.

(6) Select the "LO frame" layer on the [Layer] palette, right-click and select [Convert Layer] from the menu.

⑦ In the [Convert Layer] dialog, set [Type] to [Image material layer]. Change it to any name you want.

The layer has been changed to [Image material layer].

⑧ In the same way, set [Tap] to [Image material layer].

■ 6. Create a cut folder for template creation

With the data of "LO frame" read earlier as it is, select [File] menu-> [New] in the menu bar.

Set [New Dialog] to create a template.

(1) [Standard size]: Enter the LO size that you made a note of in "■ Check the 4.100 frame size".

(2) [Draw size]: Check to set the magnification of [Width] and [Height] to "1.00".

③ [Margin]: Enter the size of the margin that you wrote down in “■ 2. Measuring the margin size of the layout”.

④ [Cut template]: Check to load "Na_Movie template ver03". (If you do not have the "in-house" notation.)

⑤ Select OK when the setting is completed.

The cut folder has been created.

■ 7. Copy "Tap" and "LO frame"

(1) Press the tab above to check the data of the first created "LO frame".

② On the [Layer] palette, select both the "Tap" layer and the "LO frame" layer.

(3) Select [Edit] menu-> [Copy] on the menu bar.

(4) From the canvas tab above, open the cut folder that contains the template.

⑤ Paste "Tap" and "LO frame" by selecting [Edit] menu-> [Paste] on the menu bar.

  • If you want to duplicate a layer without adding "Copy of", set [Duplicate layer name] to [Do not change] in [File] menu-> [Preferences]-[Layer / frame]. Let's

⑥Rename the pasted layer.

(7) Check if the margin settings are correct.

[POINT] If you need to adjust the margins

If you want to match the settings of [Height] and [Width] displayed in [Page Management] when you check the resolution of 3. LO paper size, adjust the LO margin setting and change the value. I will match.

To adjust the margin value, press the [Page Management] menu → [Change Basic Page Settings] on the menu bar.

Change the [Margins] setting in the dialog that appears to adjust the overall size of the paper.

■ 8. Template Preparation

<Incorporating an image of tap holes in the layer structure>

1. On the [Layer] palette, expand the "1" layer folder of "template" and move the "Tap" layer to below the "Shadow" layer.

(2) After storing, close the expansion of "1" and "template".

<When combining the image of the tap hole on each paper at the time of "animation cell output">

If you do not store the image of the tap hole or the image of the layout frame in the cells of the paper, you can later combine the image data on each paper with the settings when exporting.

If you want to combine images when exporting, leave the "Tap" image outside the [Animation folder].

For details on export settings, see "9. Export + Export Movie (Movie)".

■ 9. Template

Template this layer structure.

① Select [Edit] menu-> [Register material]-> [Template] on the menu bar.

② In the displayed [Material Properties] dialog, name the [Material name] arbitrarily. After specifying the [Material save destination], press [OK].

If you make a template in this way, the template you just registered as [Cut template] can be read when you create a new folder next time.

(3) If you do not need the clip data used to create the template and the clip file used to create the material for the "LOframe", close it from the canvas tab without saving.

If you want to use this cut folder as the base clip data, save the "animation" clip file.

■ 10. Preset registration

Create the [New Dialog] setting again.

① Select [File] menu → [New] on the menu bar.

(2) Enter [Standard size] [Drawing size] [Margin] [Frame rate] in [New dialog]. (If you have adjusted the margin, enter that number.)

(3) Reload the template that was loaded previously in [Cut template]. Click on the currently loaded template.

④ As you scroll through the templates, you can choose the template you created earlier.

⑤ I read the created template.

⑥ In this state, click the [Register to preset] button next to [Preset].

(7) Enter an arbitrary preset name, check all the items to be included in the preset, and click [OK].

Registering in a preset is convenient because you can load the settings from the [Preset] list at any time.
