In this course, we will explain the animation production process with CLIP STUDIO PAINT based on the method of digital drawing work of Nippon Animation Co., Ltd.

  • This article is in Japanese. Machine translation is performed on sites other than Japanese.

Continuing from the last time, we will set up the working environment.

Let's customize the [Command Bar] where you can register functions such as frequently used tools, menu commands, auto actions, and drawing colors.

  • Once this setting is made, there is no need to reset it again.

[1] Command bar settings

In order to create an environment that makes it easy to work with animation, let's register tools and auto actions that are convenient for drawing in the [Command Bar].

■ 1. Add a command

The [Command Bar] is the toolbox displayed at the top of the screen. Since we loaded "Na_Video Workspace" last time, some tools have been deployed.

Register the auto actions included in the "Na_ Auto Action ver03" downloaded earlier here.

(1) Select "Foreground" from the [Auto Action] palette and drag and drop it to the [Command Bar] to register the Auto Action in the command bar.

  • If the [Auto Action] palette is not displayed, select [Window] menu → [Auto Action] to display it.

(2) Follow the same procedure to add auto actions in order from the top.

<Icon setting>

If you add the auto action to the [Command Bar], all the icons will be the same, so set the icons at the same time.

① Please download the icon from the following URL.

Download the icon image from this URL and save it in a location that you can easily understand, such as [Document] on your PC.

(2) Right-click the command icon of [Create shooting specified folder] added to the [Command bar] and press [Icon setting].

(On the iPad, you can do the same by holding down the "Control" key on your edge keyboard or your keyboard and clicking.)

(3) Click [Specify image file] in [Icon settings].

④ Select "32_up" of the downloaded icon and press [OK].

An icon has been specified.

⑤ Repeat this and register "32_up (to the front)" to "49_1-3-2 (mid-division post-packing (1/3))" in the command bar. The icon contrast is as follows.

  • "Paste layer" will be registered in the [Selection launcher] in a later process. It is not registered in the command bar.

<Organization of commands>

You can stack icons by dropping the icons registered in the [Command Bar] at the overlapping positions when registering.

You can also stack after registering in the [Command Bar] by following the steps below.

① In windows, hold down the "Ctrl" key and repeat the commands. (On Mac and iPad, hold down the Command key while dragging.)

Depending on the terminal you are using, the length of the [Command Bar] is limited, so stack it appropriately to keep it clean.

(2) Several icons were overlaid and set as follows.

(3) The tools registered in the [Command Bar] have been rearranged. At first, it is easier to learn how to use it if you organize the tools to some extent for each work process.

The command bar looks like this.

[POINT]

The following tools are set in the [Command Bar] of the loaded workspace.

If you have deleted these tools, they will not be reflected, so if you want to make the same settings as the course, add them manually.

・ [Pen] → [Pen] → [G Pen]

・ [Eraser] → [Eraser] → [Hard]

・ [Figure] → [Direct drawing] → [Curve]

・ [Figure] → [Direct drawing] → [Ellipse]

  • You can add the initial sub tool by following the steps below.

■ 2. Command icon setting

Change the settings of the menu and tool icons added to the [Command Bar] in an easy-to-understand manner.

<Icon background color setting>

[Show timeline palette], [Specify cells at once], and [Delete cell specification] use the default icon, but you can make it easier to understand by changing the background color of the icon.

① Right-click [Show Timeline Palette].

(2) If you check [Icon background color] in the [Icon settings] dialog, you can select your favorite color by pressing the color display on the right side.

This time, I will unify the [Timeline] operation tools to R: 246, G: 209, B: 226.

③ After specifying the color, press [OK].

(4) Click [OK] to close the [Icon Settings] dialog.

The background color of [Show Timeline Palette] is now any color.

(6) In the same way, specify the same color for [Play / Stop], [Specify cells at once], and [Delete on track].

<Replacement of icon>

(1) Assign the downloaded icon to the duplicate icon in CLIP STUDIO PAINT. (Please use the icon custom as you like.)

Assign "Load Timesheet Information" to "55_timesheet-load" and "Create All Corresponding Cells" to "56_timesheet-cell".

② [Edit timeline] is "53_komaokuri".

For [Edit Timeline] only, right-click and select [Sub Tool Settings] from the menu, and specify any icon from the [User Settings] item in the dialog.

The Command Bar looks like this.

■ 3. Add drawing color

Four drawing colors used for shadow painting are registered in the initial state. This color is a drawing color compatible with the software called "Paintman" which is widely used for finishing.

Let's add colors from the downloaded "Na_Anime Color Set" to the [Command Bar].

(1) Select [Window] menu → [Color set] to display the [Color set] palette.

(2) Press [Menu Display] on the upper right and click [Load Color Set Material].

(3) In the [Load Color Set Material] dialog, select "NA_Anime Color Set" from the downloaded materials and press [OK].

"Na_Anime Color Set" has been registered. There are 2 solid lines (black, pencil), 3 color tresses (red, green, blue), and 8 colors for shadow painting.

[POINT]

Color The tress line and shadow color are compatible with the "Paint Man" used in the finish, so we recommend using these colors.

(4) Add the drawing color to the [Command Bar] so that you do not have to display the [Color Set] palette every time you work. From the [Color Set] palette, click "Orange for Shadow Painting (R: 255 G: 128 B: 0)".

The main color of [Drawing color] is changed to the clicked color.

(5) Right-click [Command Bar] and select [Add Drawing Color] from the menu.

The color selected earlier on the [Color Set] palette is added to the [Command Bar].

By right-clicking on the pink drawing color added to the [Command Bar], it was added to the right.

(6) It is convenient because the drawing colors for shadow painting can be arranged by dragging the added orange drawing color onto the pink drawing color while pressing the "Ctrl" key ("Command" key on Mac).

This completes the basic customization of the [Command Bar].

[POINT] Existing tools such as [G Pen], [Curve], [Ellipse], [Eraser], [Cancel], and [Fill] can be made easier to understand visually by adding a background color to the icon.

Since the tools are registered in the [Command Bar], it is okay to close the [Tools] palette. Close all palettes you no longer use.

[2] Shortcut settings

Some shortcuts are registered in the loaded "Na_Video Workspace" workspace, but the shortcuts are not set in [Tools] and [Auto Action] loaded from the distribution material.

Set a shortcut in [Auto Action].

(1) Select [File] menu → [Shortcut settings].

(2) From the [Main Menu] in the [Shortcut Settings] dialog that appears, press the ▼ next to it to switch to [Auto Action].

③ Press ▷ on the left side of "Na_Auto Action ver03" to open the list.

Assign a shortcut to the command in "Na_Auto Action ver03".

[POINT]

Select the line of the item you want to edit and click the button to be ready to edit the shortcut. You can change the shortcut by keying in the shortcut you want to set and pressing the [Enter] key.

④ Try selecting "Paste Layer" and set a shortcut. Click "Paste Layer" and you will be ready to edit the shortcut.

⑤ Enter "Ctrl" key + "V" on the keyboard and press "Enter".

The "Paste Layer" command has been assigned to the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + V".

⑥ Let's customize the shortcut so that it is easy to do other auto actions in the same way.

[POINT]

The following is a recommended keyboard shortcut table.

Shortcuts are assigned to frequently used tools. You don't have to remember the shortcuts from the beginning, but it's very useful once you get used to it.

Please use it as a reference for creating shortcuts.

[3] Preferences

Check the environment settings of CLIP STUDIO PAINT.

(1) Select [Preferences] from the [File] menu to display the [Preferences] dialog.

[POINT]

From ver1.9.11, the options of the shape tool can be selected more finely. Nippon Animation Co., Ltd. uses [Display in progress with figure tool] as [Drawing result].

(2) From the [Tablet] item, check whether the settings are the recommended settings for your environment. If you are using a general external pen tablet, set it to [Wintab]. You do not need to check other settings. (Please download and install the pen tablet driver from each manufacturer's HP)

(3) You can set the shape of the pen tip from the [Cursor] item.

I think that [Cross cursor] and [Brush size] are widely used for brush cursors and pen cursors. (For LCD pen tablets, [None] is fine)

If you set the eraser to [Brush size], you can see the size of the eraser, so it is easy to use. Please change the settings to make it easier for you to use.

(4) It is recommended to set [Unit] to [mm] from the [Ruler, Unit] item.

⑤ It is the setting of the [Canvas] item. [High quality] is recommended for the display quality.

When using an LCD pen tablet, the most important thing in [Preferences] is [Display resolution]. Press [Settings] in [Display Resolution] to display the ruler.

Adjust the slider so that the displayed ruler is the same size as the actual ruler by overlaying it on the screen.

Don't forget to set it because it is an important setting.

(6) Click [OK] to close the [Preferences] dialog, and the settings will be reflected.

<Reflecting the settings>

If CLIP STUDIO PAINT is forcibly terminated due to a PC freeze or forced termination, the changed settings may be lost. After completing the settings, it is a good idea to quit the software once by selecting [File] menu → [Exit CLIP STUDIO PAINT] and then start it again.

[POINT]

If you want to restore the data before making changes to the workspace, select [Window] menu-> [Workspace]-> [Reload "Na_Video Workspace"], and the workspace when it was first registered You can return to the state of.

<Backup of settings>

Items set in CLIP STUDIO PAINT this time can be saved in the cloud as application settings.

The saved settings can be restored to other PCs by logging in from the same account.

If your computer crashes, you can always restore it by saving your settings in the cloud. I will briefly explain how to back up the settings.

(1) Start [CLIP STUDIO] and log in.

② Click [Cloud] at the top right of the screen.

(3) The [Cloud] menu will be displayed. Click [Back up app settings now].

(4) A dialog will be displayed. Check it and press [OK] to start backing up the application, and the settings of [Workspace], [Command Bar], and [Tools] will be saved on the cloud.

  • If CLIP STUDIO PAINT is running, you cannot back up, so close the software once.

<Restore settings>

① To restore the settings, click [Restore app settings] on the [Cloud] menu.

(2) The date and time of backup will be displayed, so select the data you want to restore.

(3) The following dialog will be displayed. Check it and click [OK] to start restoring the settings.

You can also save works etc. in [Cloud]. For details, refer to "How to use cloud services".

This completes the preparation for the course. From the next time, I will start the actual work.
