Using File Objects
Using Clip Studio’s file object function, you can directly import Clip Studio (.clip) files as objects into another file.
Imported file objects can be edited and transformed without affecting the original image data.
[1] Converting a .clip file to a file object
● Importing a file object
(1) First, prepare the file that will import the object “01.clip,” and the file to be imported “02.clip.”
There are no limitations on layer structure, etc.
-“01.clip” will import the file object
-“02.clip” will be imported
(2) Next, select [Import] > [Create file object] from the [File] menu.
(3) Select and open “02” to import it as a [File object].
The imported “02” file object can be used in the same way as an image material layer.
Note:The operation handle design has been changed from Ver. 1.9.1
The current course uses screenshots from Ver. 1.9.0 or earlier.
● Changing settings of a file object
You can change the file object’s settings by selecting it with the [Object] sub tool, and then going to the [Tool Property] palette.
For example, you can hide the file object’s paper layer by unchecking [Rendering settings] > [Draw paper].
- The background of “02” will be hidden, leaving the character visible
● Placing and transforming multiple file objects
Let’s try copying “02” and pasting it onto the faces of the cube.
Selecting the file object layer in the layer palette, select [Layer] menu > [Duplicate Layer].
Here, I duplicated the file object two times.
The duplicated layers are linked to the same .clip file.
By selecting [Free Transform] under [Mode] in the tool property palette, you can transform the file object.
These transformations will not affect the original file.
The file objects have been transformed along the cube’s perspective.
● Updating a file object
Editing the original .clip files of a file object will automatically update all file objects.
If the file object does not update automatically, you can update it manually with [File object] > [Update file object] in the layer menu.
[2] Creating file objects from layers
Instead of creating a .clip file to use as a file object, you can directly convert a .clip file’s layer into a file object as well.
While selecting a layer, select [File object] > [Convert layer to file object] from the [Layer] menu.
The following dialog box will appear. At this point, you can choose to whether to keep or discard the original layer.
Select [OK] to export the selected layer as a .clip file and convert it to a single file object layer.
