Automatic color, Surgical mask
Hello, for this tutorial, I wanted to color this drawing of a surgical mask, a symbol of protection in these difficult times.
I started by making a sketch of my drawing, I used floral brushes downloaded from Clip Studio Assets
Sketch and Line
On a new layer, I line the drawing (put it clean) with the GPen pen. I put the sketch in opacity 30/100 in order to be able to make clean lines on the line layer.
I go back over the brushes of flowers, which allows to have different widths of lines, that it sticks better to my style and to be able to highlight each element by thicker contours.
Automatic colorization
The line is ready. We will be able to use automatic coloring to color.
1: I put my line layer in reference layer. To get there, you have to press the small lighthouse.
2: On another layer I put the colors I wanted on my drawing and in the places indicated. Do not hesitate to play with complementary colors.
To put in automatic colors:
1- Edition
2- Automatic colorization
3- Help with pictures
When I clicked with the help of images, the colorization was done, it may take a few seconds to wait before doing the maneuver.
You will get an automatic colorization like here.
I started again the maneuver for the rhombus in the background and I put a white layer between the coloring of the mask and the background so that the colors do not overlap.
We have pretty pastel colors.
Unfortunately, the color did not take everywhere.
We will have to colorize the holes manually with a brush.
I take the colors of the drawing with the pipette to have the same colors.
We have no more white in the drawing.
Now you have to erase the color that comes out of the illustration.
To do so, I used:
1- the magic wand on the line layer and when I have selected all the elements that should not have colors.
2- I erased the excess colors on the colors layer.
The drawing has no more overflowing colors but it is flat and dull
It lacks shadows, lights and details.
I decided to color the line in order to soften the drawing
1: new layer over the line layer. I put it in clipping mask, for that, you have to click on the two small superimposed rectangles and the line layer must be just below.
2: I colorized my line using the airbrush tool.
It immediately softens the illustration
line colorization
I place some shadows and lights to add volume to the drawing.
1: new layer in product mode. I place the shadows. I decided that the light came from the left, so I place all my shadows accordingly.
Shadows and lights
And we do the same with the light zones.
1: new layer on top of the others but this time in brightness density mode.
For finishes. Add a little white edging where you want the details to stand out.
Illustration finale
Our illustration is finished. Automatic colorization allows me to use color ranges that I'm not used to using and to soften my drawings.
I hope you enjoyed it. Take care of yourself and others by protecting yourself
