Hi.

This tutorial is for beginners on how to draw a stormy weather using the basic tools in clip studio. I use some set of layers, a pencil draft of what my saturated cloud will look like in the end, gradient tool, blend tool, brush tool, and applying blending modes and opacity properties to the illustration and the likes. Finally, I add an already made work of skyscrapper, then with final touch to the work. I also use the pen tool to add some effects on the windows as traces of rain drops.

Layout

First, I click on File > New to create a new canvas.

In the use of work I select <Illustration> and sets my paper to <B5> and a resolution of <350 dpi> and then click OK.

Creating the cloud

On layer1 selected, click on the colour wheel and select an indigo colour then use the fill tool and apply. Then adjust the opacity of the layer to about 56% making the base layer look saturated.

Create anothe layer and draft the volume of a saturated cloud.

Apply gradient erase using the elipse shape to give a dimmed sunshine effect.

Create another layer above the draft layer (turned off). Use Selection Pen tool and trace the volume of the cloud. Then on the colour wheel, select a gray colour and apply on the selection.

Create another layer and adjust the Selection Pen tool using Free Transform tool and on the colour wheel select a darker colour and apply the Fill tool on the selection

On the current layer use the Blend tool on the edges on the darker cloud to blend with the lighter cloud on the layer below.

Select the lower layer and use the blend tool on the edges of the lighter cloud to blend with the saturated weather layer

Select, copy and duplicate the darker layer above by right-clicking the layer and clicking Duplicate from the flyout list.

Use the Transform tool to enlarge, then use the Move tool to position it upwards.

Drag the copied layer below the third layer, then select the uppermost layer. Set the the brush tool to Soft and set the colour to white and adjusting the brush size, using the draft layer as reference, paint the lines of volume of the cloud.

Lightening

Create another layer, setting the colour to white and use the Pen tool and draw a lightening streak.

Next, copy the layer and draw the copied layer below the original layer. With the copied layer selected, click on Filter > Blur > Gaussian blur.

Adjust Area To Blur Effect to a higher value.

Create a new layer above the original layer and set its blending mode to Screen. Adjust the layer's opacity property to 60%, then use the airbrush tool on the lightening streak to give it a glowing effect.

Select the three layers and on the tools palette, select the Move tool and move the lightening to a preffered position on the cloud.

Using the sky as background

Click on File > Import > Image to select a picture.

Next, click on the layer and on the flyout list, select Rasterize Layer.

Of this type, I use Auto Select tool and select the windows of the picture and press delete. The sky appears as background.

Final touching

There are samples of water droplet brushes to apply as raindrops to apply on the glass building but sticking to the basic tools of Clip studio, I created my own as effects to the illustration.

Thanks.
