1.- INTRODUCTION

Hi everyone! It's razlert!

And today, I'm going to share with you some of the Tips and Exercises of Line Art.

This tutorial uses Clip Studio Paint pro.

So let's get started!

2.- There are some the prejudices and myths make you hard to create a good line art!

Myth number one:

"The sketch being not very good is not really my fault, but the fault of the tools I’m using".

If you change tools all the time to find that "best" one, you lose a chance to locate the source of your problems! Please, remember, it's never the fault of your pencil, tablet, or the program! In fact, this is about your manual skill you haven't had a chance to develop, because you didn't work on it!

Myth number two:

Beginners says "My hand doesn't listen me".

It's only partially true. When beginner draw a straight line then his hand creates a zigzag. Drawing can be compared to riding a bike. At first, he doesn't listen to you and clumsily swings from side to side. But after some practice the riding a bike getting better.

Myth number three:

"I can't draw this, because I don't have talent».

No matter whether you're talented or not, to learn how to draw you need to understand the origin of lines. Only then will you gain control over your drawings, and you won't be a slave of talent or lack thereof.

So, it's all about the amount of practice. Your hands are not used to such a precise task as drawing.

However, even mastering the technical skills doesn't guarantee you'll be able to draw what you want. Here's where the technical part of the skill actually ends, because drawing from imagination isn't about being able to do something, but rather about understanding what you should do.

3.- Three drawing methods.

There are three drawing methods, all attached to the hand:

① Drawing From the Shoulder

② Drawing From the Elbow

③ Drawing From the Wrist

I hear a lot of the drawing from the elbow or shoulder really superior then drawing from the wrist. But most beginners use a cheap graphics tablet, simply because the bigger tablet more expensive. Since it's a small tablet, there's no space for expressive movements of the elbow, not to mention the shoulder.

But I have a good news for you, there's no need to drawing from the elbow or shoulder.

Wrist can be expressive too, if you move it fast, and you can cross half of a graphics tablet with very little movement — if you zoom out and draw a short line fast, it will be just as expressive as a long line drawn from the elbow or shoulder!

4.- Some a basic exercises for your manual skill.

♡♡♡♡ ⚠ NOTE ♡♡♡♡

Keep your hand relaxed—don't press the stylus with all your power.

[1] The first exercise:

Draw doodles. This exercise warms up your hand!

[2] The second exercise:

Draw a gradient out of the lines using various pressure levels.

[3] The third exercise:

Connect dots and control direction. This exercise lets you gain control over the direction of the line.

[4] The fourth exercise:

Draw many ovals and don't worry about their perfection. The goal here is to keep turning and end where you started. Then quickly fill them with hatching not to cross the outlines.

[5] The fifth exercise:

Tracing. Take a reference, try to draw, and observe how you do it.

It’s a very good way to find your own style is to analyze other styles you like.

This exercise reminds you what drawing is about and teach you how to change direction smoothly.

[6] The sixth exercise:

Repeat lines. Draw a short line with low pressure. Then draw over it once again, and again. This is the first step in reaching precision.

♡♡♡♡ ⚠ NOTE ♡♡♡♡

Train your line art every day and your hand to work almost automatically with the tool you want to use.

5.- Let's draw a line art.

Trouble is, where to begin?

You can’t start with a clean line of art.

-1 So start with the stain. Usually those who have problems with linear drawing have no problems with painting. Work with a large brush.

-2 Add solid colors to the hair, dress, etc.

-3 Start with the stain and guess the lines in the spots. Be messy, make a lot of rough lines, and keep sketching until you're sure you know what you want.

-4 Create new layer, using [Fiil] add the solid color and lower the [Opacity] on the [Layer] palette to 69% to lighten the color of the sketch.

By lowering the sketch opacity, it will be easier to see the clean line art.

-5 Create the “line art” layer. Let’s begin to create our line art. The thickness of the lines depends on the pressing force of the stylus.

-6 Once you’ve finished drawing the clean lines, hide your sketch layers so that only the line art layer shows.

-7 You can hide the all layers so only the line art is visible. The line art is now complete.

♡♡♡♡ ⚠ NOTE ♡♡♡♡

I used a lot of layers to do clean lines!!!
