REALISTIC TEXTURING TUTORIAL
Hi. I am Awan from Indonesia. Today, we gonna talk about how to get realistic artwork textured by the photo reference. This kind of technique will allow you to get realistic result on your works. As you can see, the result gives a better result with the texture material.
I made this tutorial for very beginner in Clip Studio Paint. so it's good to be read by everyone. Well, let found the way... yuhuuu... ^.^
NEW DOCUMENT
First of all, make sure you make the standard resolution of good work. For this Baby Ele, I resolved by W: 2486 x H:3000. Some artist makes the standard to their work for some purpose and what their works used to be. It's good for printed on standard paper size is 2000px x 2000px. Bigger resolution better followed by bigger hardcopy printed size.
For the simple way, you can just choose the featured paper sizes by Clip Studio for the resolution you need.
Don't forget to fill the (Basic Expression color): color. it's because we want to make a colored artwork.
So, here's the paper resolution setting I use for this BABY ELE artwork. Let's paint the colors now!
PAINTING PROCESS
1. SKETCH
For your first layer, draw the sketch. it's basic of the artwork. It'll help you much for the coloring step. for the sketch step I use (Pencils-rough).
2. SHAPE OF COLOR
make a new layer, you can use the menu bar or shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + N. put the new layer under the Sketch layer. now, draw the shape of the color of your painting object. I use light brown. the reason because the Elephant has the brown color of their body. lol ^.^
3. SHADING
decide the dark part of your painting object. I use (Airbrush-soft/hard) for the steps. I also choose the darker color of light brown.
You have 2 layers, combine them both using the tool I mention. Combining layers will make your work easy for blending. I personally love this kind of technique. It's also allowed me not to use too many layers in the future. ^.^v
Yep, you only have 1 layer to get work. hohoho
4. BLENDING
For the blending step, I also prefer to use (Watercolor tool). I feel like Watercolor gives so many better options for blending my work.
5. DETAILING
For the detailing part I also use the same tool as blending steps. But I add some new colors for the richer result. The workflow is: make darker color for the dark side and blend- make light color for the light side then go blend. Simple right?
6. READY TO TEXTURIZED
Make sure your work ready for the main topic we discuss, texturing. at least your work have the volume before you texturing the work. it's the foundation.
TEXTURING
7. TEXTURING
We arrive at the main step we talk about. For the texturing part, all you have to prepare is photo texture. in this case, I use real elephant skin texture for my work.
you can import the texture photo by
FILE- IMPORT- IMAGE- select image- OK
put the texture photo on the color layer. then change the color mode into [soft light]. the effect gives you transparent texture and adheres to under layer. Low the opacity if you feel and set to the transparent you need. you can see the differences before and after texturized. arrange the texture to the selection skin you want to be textured. Now, don't forget to delete some unnecessary part using the eraser tool. the tidiest as you can.
8. DETAILING
You can back to the Detailing Step (number 5) because of the step is the same way. ^.^
I make the Detailing part in the new layer.
9. SPOTTED
To get a more realistic result I add some spotted to the Baby Ele skin. It gives a better result by the way. I also make a new layer for the Spotted part.
All you have to do is using the tool I mentioned above. Change the color mode into [Overlay]. now your Baby Ele get dirty. lol
Make a new layer for this part.
For the finishing step, I add some soft hairs and detailing some part. just follow Step number 5/Detailing. Don't forget to add some light to get your object oily.
it's optional but you can add some background for your painting object. make a new layer, put the layer at the bottom and paint the background.
TOTAL LAYERS
As you can see, we have 7 layers. Now, don't forget to save your work to the format you need. You can lock some pixel transparent mak your work easy to do.
Tada, your Baby Ele looks cute for now. ^.^v
