Hi everyone and welcome to my tutorial on drawing a festive feast. And what better time of year to draw a Christmas feast than the month of December?

Lineart

We will use perspective to help show both the food and the people in the same square. I'll thus start by drawing the lines that form a 3-point perspective grid.

Everything should match the grid lines when drawing the line art. Going in I had an idea of a chaotic get-together hence the cat hanging on an ornament.

Coloring

Let's talk about some common features of every feast. A feast is a loud, cozy, bustling environment that is full of people. To convey that feeling in an illustration we use warm colors.

Warm colors convey warmth, whilst chilly colors evoke a sad mood and make food appear stale and unappealing.

But it's also worth noting that blue tones can complement the orange ones increasing the warmth effect. Keeping that in mind I can put down the colors. For the wall, I used a pattern from the asset store.

I then add the patterns of the sweaters.

A yellow light source comes from the middle of the table keeping that in mind I'll add in the shadows and light sources.

For the food, I start by adding the base colors in.

Just like people I render considering the light source.

I also add a tablecloth in the middle.

For the windows, the wood texture is easily achievable by adding dark and light strokes parallel to the direction of the window with a bit of blending with a soft-edged brush.

For the ornament, I'll determine the borders with light yellow.

Then add sprinkles with airbrush resembling glitter.

Using overlay I then darken and lighten the parts according to the light source.

I add the top of the ornament.

Then I'll use even more overlay on top to bring out the shininess. I make the other ornament using the same principles.

Using multiply I'll add shadows for the plates.

I'll use a glow dodge layer to further enhance the light source.

It's also important that there will be shadows on the wall so with a multiply layer I add them in.

Lastly drawing tree branches with a soft-edged brush the drawing is done!

Merry Christmas! Thank you for reading this far, I hope I was able to help 🎄.
