Drawing hands is always difficult, even for professionals it is sometimes difficult. Today I will show you 3 main ways through which you can learn how to draw hands, not sausages. As I did before.

 

All these methods are very simple, and I'm sure you are using something like this now. I hope to help you, learn to draw hands better and faster.

Hand anatomy

But first, I will introduce you to the anatomy of the hands, thanks to this it will be easier for you to understand the structure, which greatly simplifies the process.

And so I think you all noticed that basically there are usually five fingers on the hand (there are exceptions, but we will talk about

standard), on each finger there are three phalanges, except for the thumb, there are two. It is easy to imagine in the form of geometric shapes.

I'll show you a couple of anatomically simple examples, just for reference. Also, please do not forget that there are nails on the fingers!

And so we got acquainted with anatomy, now we can start our three ways of drawing hands.

The first way

For this, I propose to use the CLIP STUDIO library, where we will take the 3D models presented for reference.

You can take a hand separately (by downloading in the users library) or use the whole 3D models.

So, I show you what you need to do for this, everything is quite simple:

1. By clicking on this icon, we open our library, go to the "3D" section, then "Body Type" and drag the model you like.

2. Set up the necessary posture. You can adjust the pose of the hand as you wish.

Each phalanx can be moved + you can adjust the perspective you need, which greatly simplifies your work.

And so, when you set up your 3D hand pose, you can either draw on top of the layer, or draw your own based on 3D hands (I think this method helps to increase the level of drawing better). And so I show how to do it in every way:

1. To redraw our 3D hand, create a new layer on top, for this, click to create a new layer, and reduce the opacity to 50% so that it is easier for you to redraw the layer with 3D hand

2. To draw hands on the basis of 3D, we create simple geometric shapes on our hand and try to redraw separately, which is harder but much better. We repeat all those steps with the creation of a new layer.

Done, now you know how to draw hands from 3D models in the CLIP STUDIO PAINT.

Second way

I am sure everyone used this method, all you need is your hands;) And so we turn on the camera and try to take a photo of the hands in the pose we need. After a few frames, we got great references.

Add a photo of your beautiful hands to our Clip Studio file, and you also have two ways to use this reference, or simply draw on top, or use it as the basis of the reference.

The methods are no different than those that I showed in the previous method, but I will repeat.

Here are the options:

1. To redraw our hand from the photo, create a new layer on top, for this we click to create a new layer, and to make it easier for you to redraw from the photo layer, you can reduce the opacity to about 50%

2. To draw on the basis of the photo, using as a reference, we create simple geometric shapes on our hand and try to redraw separately, which is much more complicated. We repeat all those steps with the creation of a new layer.

 

Third way

This method will be more difficult, since you are now familiar with the anatomy, I will show how, without using references, you can learn how to draw hands logically.

And so I show you an example of what the anatomy of the hands looks like, and also I will show from which simple geometric shapes it can be imagined. In fact, over time, it will be easier for you to use this method, since you will automatically draw such hands as you need.

Let's get started.

I usually use rectangles, this helps me. Just draw the basis for our fingers (palm), mark where our fingers will be, since the fingers consist of three phalanges, we use three rectangles for each, not counting the thumb. You can experiment with the forms.

Since phalanges are not just rectangles, but bones with joints, we draw circles at the end of our rectangles to make it more realistic.

Do not forget about the nails.

Coloring

Now I will show you how to color our hands, usually I don’t really color them, but I’ll show how it should be.

First, using air brush, I go around the edges to add volume, then I paint over the darkest places.

Reduce the opacity to about 75%

Now you have learned how to draw hands, you have as many as three ways. Choose whichever you prefer and try.
