Clip Studio Paint Ver. 2.0.0 features a new color mixing method.

The new color mixing produces various results with different color combos but overall makes more vibrant and realistic color mixing. This is in contrast to the old color mixing that produces duller colors upon mixing.

Left: [Standard] color mixing vs. Right: New [Perceptual] color mixing

If you turn on [Mixing mode], you can use the new color mixing with brushes that can mix colors while painting.

You can do this by (1) turning on [Mixing mode] under [Ink] in the [Sub Tool Detail] palette (PRO/EX) or (2) add a new sub tool from default from the [Add from default] dialog.

(1) Change your current sub tool to the new color mixing

If your app was upgraded to Ver. 2.0 from a previous version then the sub tool settings will not be changed to the new mixing mode. You will need to change it manually by going to the [Sub Tool Detail] palette.

Mixing mode

[Standard]: Mix colors with the standard mode.

[Perceptual]: Mix colors with the new color mixing mode.

Brightness correction

When changed to [Perceptual] you can then set [Brightness correction].

There are five brightness levels for color mixing that you can choose from in [Brightness correction].

[Mixing mode] settings will also apply to [Color Jitter] (Change brush tip color, Randomize per stroke).

Note: Mixing on a vector layer

You will only be able to use the [Perceptual] mixing mode through [Color Jitter] > [Randomize per stroke] on a vector layer.

(2) Add sub tool with the new setting

If you would like to add the updated mixing mode while using Clip Studio Paint DEBUT or while not changing any of your existing tools, select [Add from default] from the menu at the top-left of the [Sub tool] palette.

Sub tools that have had settings changed from Ver. 2.0.0 will have “Ver 2.0” written at the end of their name.

In the [Add from default] dialog, choose a sub tool that you want to add and tap [Add]. This will add the default sub tool with the new setting to your [Sub Tool] palette. Repeat this as necessary to add more.

Note:

From ver. 2.0 onwards, the [Add from default] dialog will not close after adding a tool and you will be able to keep adding tools from it as long as you wish.

(3) Default sub tools with updated parameters

[Perceptual] mixing mode will allow you to mix colors with more ease than [Standard].

From Ver. 2.0, the following default sub tools have been set with parameters for [Perceptual]: [Amount of paint], [Density of paint], and [Color stretch] for ease of use.

[Pencil] tool > [Pastel] group > [Crayon]

[Pencil] tool > [Pastel] group > [Pastel]

[Pencil] tool > [Pastel] group > [Chalk]

[Brush] tool > [Watercolor] group > [Wet wash]

[Brush] tool > [Thick paint] group > [Gouache]

[Brush] tool > [Thick paint] group > [Dry Gouache]

Please check Clip Studio Assets for tools if you want to add sub tools as they were before Ver. 1.13.2.
