[1] Adding details - 1 (colored lines)

It is almost done but, I want to add some more details to improve its overall quality.

I create a new layer with the blending mode set to [Multiply] and paint a bit over the buildings and add details.

I repeat this process all over the drawing.

It doesn’t need to be perfect, but I chose lighter colors for objects further in the distance.

You may not see a big difference.

[2] Adding details - 2 (text)

I add text.

Some fonts require permissions to use, so make sure the font you choose can be used commercially.

I added a word “祭嵐,” meaning the storm of a festival, which can be pronounced “Matsuri-arashi” or “Sai-ran.”

I add text using the [Text] tool and then right click the layer and choose [Rasterize] from the displayed menu. In this way, you can rasterize the text layer (or convert it to a raster layer).

Then I click [Edit] menu > [Transform] > [Free Transform] to adjust the sides of the buildings so that they match with the perspective.

This word has a double meaning. It shows that energetic people live in this city but, it also talks about the Japanese who love storm-like festivals. I like the positive but sarcastic nuance of this word created by these two meanings.

It obviously seems like a building built by Japanese people.

[3] Adding details - 3 (dragon markings)

I add markings on the dragon’s body.

I made its skin slightly darker.

[4] Adding details - 4 (aircraft lines)

This step is not necessary, but I decided to add color lines on the aircraft, because I did the same thing on the dragon and in the distance.

I added two lines on the wings here...

Now it is complete.

Adding fine details at the end of the process is a meaningful part to an illustrator.

Thank you for taking time to read this tutorial.

The tutorial is over, but I would like to add my opinion regarding tool usage and skill acquisition.

I believe this applies to everything, but if you don’t have anything you want to draw, it is hard to develop new skills.

If you want to draw something and if it includes something you don’t want do draw, then you will develop skills naturally.

It may be a better idea to focus on delivering your idea or thoughts through your drawing than to believe you can draw well with new skills.

Regardless of the type of the drawing, the main purpose of the drawing should not be skill acquisition.

It is much more important to broaden your perspective and improve your way of thinking.

When this is achieved, you then need technology to deliver and express your ideas.

If you keep trying, you will achieve your goal.

However, if your way of thinking is not solid, your efforts will be futile.

So please come back and read this tutorial if you love drawing Sci-Fi themes but fail to express the image you have in mind.

I’m sure you can understand more deeply what cannot be described in writing.

For people who want to draw different themes, please refer to others who have achieved this.
