Workflow from booklet printing to digital submission
Hello everyone.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to create a manuscript for booklet printing and digital submission using Clip Studio Paint EX functions.
*
Software used: Clip Studio Paint EX
1_ Make a plan for your booklet
First, let's think about what kind of booklet you want to make!
【plan】
Booklet size: B5
Number of booklet pages: 12 pages (* The number of pages is always a multiple of 4)
Booklet cover: full color
Booklet text: Monochrome
Reading direction: From right to left (= right binding)
[Type of paper]
Cover: Mirror coat 135mm (0.150mm)
Body: High-quality paper 70kg (0.095mm)
2_New creation [Setting] Doujinshi submission
Once you have a plan, let's make a manuscript.
・ First, prepare a folder to save the original data.
(Example: Folder name “comic”)
・ Next, start Clip Studio Paint EX.
From File → Create New, select [Doujinshi submission] in [Use of work].
For the file name, specify the “comic” folder you prepared earlier.
Let's enter each item according to the plan.
① [Manga manuscript setting]
Settings for the body page.
Bookbinding size → “B5”
Cutting width → 5mm
(* To specify the margin area around the bookbinding size. Generally 3mm to 5mm)
Resolution → 600dpi
Basic expression color-> monochrome
Number of basic lines → 60.0
Number of pages → 12 pages
Check the binding position → right binding
- Doujinshi settings (a function that reflects the specifications of each printing company) are omitted for the Japanese version only.
②Cover
Resolution → 350dpi
Basic expression color → color
Paper color → White (The same color can be specified for the front cover / back cover / front cover (back) / back cover (back))
Composition of the cover → Check the left
(* Right is often used for making ring notebook type works like a calendar, where the front and back covers are not attached)
Back width specification → 0.57
【reference】
Back width = (number of text pages ÷ 2) × (paper thickness of text) (12 pages ÷ 2) × high-quality paper 70kg (0.095mm) = 0.57
Each printing company's website has an automatic calculation simulator available for your reference.
Work information
If you enter the work name and author name, they will be displayed outside the print range of the manuscript paper.
If you do not need it, you can leave it blank.
Noble (page number)
- Nombull is a number that represents a book page.
The hidden noble is displayed outside the print range (binding side) of the original paper.
When the setting is complete, press “OK”.
Then, the original paper for each page is automatically created in this way.
The basic settings can be changed from the menu [Page Management] → [Change basic work settings].
3_ Draw the manuscript
Now that you are ready, let's draw a manuscript.
When you double-click the page you want to draw, the page is displayed on the right and you can edit it.
Once saved, the file will look like this:
1 page management file and 11 page files.
(* Since the cover and back cover are produced as a single connected picture, page0001 has two pages.)
3-1. Draw the cover
Production of cover, back cover, cover (back) and back cover (back).
Since there is no drawing on the front cover (back) and back cover (back) this time, these two files do not need to be changed.
Double-click the cover / back cover file.
The front and back cover editing windows will open.
[CMYK display]
At printing shops, color printing is often done using the CMYK method. Let's start with CMYK display.
(1) Select [View] → [Color Profile] → [Preview Settings] from the menu.
(2) Select the CMYK display from [Profile to preview].
(Here, [CMYK: Japan Color 2001 Coated] was selected.)
Let's draw immediately after the setting is completed.
When finished, save and move on to the next production.
3-2. Draw the text
The body is produced in the same way as the cover.
Explains the frame of the original paper.
A: Lines are in this frame.
B: The range printed when bookbinding, the so-called book size.
C: Draw the drawing exactly here.
Let's make the production so that you can understand the above and get a beautiful finish.
All pages were created and completed in this way.
All that remains is to do the bookbinding work.
4_ bookbinding 3D preview
Clip Studio has a convenient function that allows you to check the binding status in 3D.
・ Select the menu [File] → [Export multiple pages] → [Bookbinding 3D Preview].
Then, it will be displayed in book form in [Bookbinding 3D Preview] window.
You can turn the page with the lower bar, or drag the book while holding the cursor on the screen to view the book from any direction.
This is a recommended feature because you can discover missed mistakes by checking them in 3D.
(I used to make the front and back covers in reverse, and I noticed and corrected them for the first time in 3D.)
5_Output data
If you can confirm, let's output data.
Select [File] → [Export multiple pages] → [Output data for doujinshi]
Click [OK].
A confirmation pop-up for [Bookbinding 3D Preview] will appear, but this time we skipped it because it was confirmed earlier.
Has completed.
CLIP STUDIO will start up when you click "Check output data".
6_Check the data output with CLIP STUDIO
You can check the output data.
Click [> Output data] in the green area on the right.
In this way, the data converted to psd file is created.
(02.psd is missing because it was not printed (back) and back cover (back))
The submission data is ready!
Check the location of the data file so that you can attach it at any time.
(Example) Upload to pixivFACTORY
If you use “Create doujinshi with pixivFACTORY” of CLIP STUDIO, you can drag and drop the prepared data in this way, and press the button to submit the document.
This is the workflow for digital trafficking.
Thank you for watching to the end.
I hope this tutorial will help you.
