Coloring using automatic coloring
Hello everyone.
In this tutorial, we will introduce how to create an illustration using the automatic coloring function, which is one of the functions of CLIP STUDIO PAINT.
[What is the automatic coloring function]
This is a convenient function that AI automatically identifies the line drawing of the illustration and paints it.
You can specify more accurate colors by adding adjustments, so let's try various things first.
① Prepare a line drawing
First, prepare the line drawing for automatic coloring.
This time, I use 3D character of CLIP STUDIO ASSETS as an example.
This section describes how to change the model (A) from the loaded state to the line drawing (D).
LT conversion of the model layer.
・ Layer ▶ Select [LT conversion of layer]
Click OK.
You can create a folder that is divided into contour lines (= line drawings) and toned parts.
Hide all but the outline used for line drawing,
If you combine the contour layers, you will have a line drawing layer.
② Use automatic coloring
There are two points in using automatic coloring.
・ Only one line drawing layer
・ Connecting to the Internet
Let's use automatic coloring based on the prepared line drawing.
Check menu Edit ▶ Auto-coloring (preceding preview).
There are three types of automatic coloring methods.
In the following, we will introduce the differences between these three coloring methods.
Automatic coloring part 1 How to use "fully automatic coloring"
Select the line drawing layer,
Click Edit (E) ▶ Auto Coloring (Preview) (P) ▶ Full Auto Coloring (F).
A layer of auto-colored data is added. (Synthesis mode "multiplication")
The colors of skin, hair and eyes are well recognized.
Illustrations such as icons are expected to function well.
How to use automatic coloring part 2 "coloring with hint image"
In addition to the line drawing layer, by preparing a "layer (hint image) that specifies the desired color scheme", it is a coloring method that allows more automatic coloring that is closer to the ideal.
First, create a hint image layer below the line drawing layer.
Put a color on the part you want to specify.
Set the line drawing layer as the reference layer.
How to set: Click the "Set as reference layer icon" marked with a red circle.
Make the image layer active (selected).
Edit ▶ Auto-coloring (preview preview) ▶ Click on the coloring using the hint image.
Since the automatic coloring based on the hint was executed, it feels more balanced than before.
How to use automatic coloring part 3 "advanced coloring"
"Advanced coloring" is an automatic coloring that allows you to finely adjust the color of "Coloring using hint image".
After preparing in the same way as "Coloring with hint image",
Click Edit ▶ Auto Color (Preview Preview) ▶ Use Advanced Settings.
Then, the setting screen is displayed.
If you check "Separate and colorize", you can finely change the color output by moving the graph for each color painted in the hint image.
If you check "Color areas without hints", the same effect as when fully automatic coloring is executed is displayed.
Here is the adjusted image. I feel that I was able to make each color clear.
Trick
With automatic coloring, the blurring effect is applied around the object, and the color may get out of the line.
The hint for coloring without overflowing is to select only the part you want to color and then execute automatic coloring (preceding preview).
Automatic selection of character part ▶ Automatic coloring (preceding preview)
In this way, only the character is colored.
Based on these automatic coloring, I tried to complete the illustration by modifying it.
I changed the color of the main line and added face and hair.
In addition, I added the tone image after LT conversion to the accent.
Clothes are only shadow and light.
In particular, I felt that clothes were able to achieve a time saving effect by automatic coloring.
Thank you for watching until the end.
We hope that the automatic coloring function will be useful as a hint to save your time to create illustrations.
