What can you do with a tablet?

The dedicated Surface pen has fine pen pressure sensing and also supports tilt, so you can reproduce the shading and the strength of lines.

Match brush size and original size

Unlike analog illustrations drawn at full scale, one of the advantages is that digital works can be displayed and drawn in various sizes regardless of the LCD size.

The display size of digital illustrations varies depending on the canvas size. Even with the same brush size, if you adjust the display size of the screen, the A4 size looks thinner. It is easier to draw a line drawing that matches the display.

■ For coloring (original)

Used throughout with a crisp fill with a distinct watercolor border.

Create it to give an analog feel.

 

■ Yawa skin brush

Colors firmly. The touch is a little soft. This is a material distributed by users distributed by ASSETS.

 

■ Airbrush (soft)

Use when blending or spreading to create a natural gradation.

 

■ Watercolor (more water)

Good color mixing. As it becomes soft touch, it fits a picture with a soft atmosphere.

■ Apply skin

 

(1) Apply a color that is a little darker than the undercoated skin and where there is shadow on the skin.

Use a “coloring” brush with a watercolor border to color the knuckles.

 

② Use [Airbrush (soft)] to softly extend to the fingertip side.

By leaving the watercolor border for “coloring” that was put in process ②, it gives a sharp impression.

 

③ For the neck where the shadow falls dark, add a purple shadow after painting the shadow with a similar color to the undercoat.

Transparency and three-dimensional feeling increase than painting only with skin color.

 

ハ イ Draw a highlight behind the nose.

There is a shadow on the head of the nose, so if you put highlights next to each other, you will get a sharp contrast.

 

 

■ Apply gray hair

 

① Put gray on the whole with [Airbrush].

Highlight areas are erased with [Eraser (hard)] to make them brighter.

 

② Draw the flow of hair with "For coloring" to give the hair bundle a three-dimensional effect.

Follow the outline of the highlight to emphasize the shape.

 

③Take the highlight gray with [eyedropper] and draw a line up and down with [G pen].

A thin line will give a sharp impression.

 

 

■ Paint a hakama

 

① It is in the state of undercoat. It is a color scheme where the green of the lining shines in the black of the hakama.

Since it is hard to see if it is black solid, add gray to make it a gradation.

The main line can be seen, making it easier to paint.

 

② Apply dark gray to the folds of the pleats with “for coloring”.

Place dark gray on the front side of the folds while avoiding borders with the "Yawa Skin Brush", and spread with [Color Mix (Blur)].

By not adding fine wrinkles, you can express the thickness of the cloth.

 

(3) For highlights, place a color with the "Yawa Skin Brush" that gives a soft touch, and blend in with [Color Mix (Blur)].

Since the coloring is performed with the light source in mind, the gloss increases as it goes to the outside, and the contrast increases and decreases.

 

 

■ Apply a transparent sleeve

 

① Draw wrinkles on the sleeve of the transparent material.

Using "for coloring" with a watercolor border, paint a darker gray.

 

② Use [Color Mixing (Blur)] to softly blur the border.

The point is to leave a little watercolor border.

 

[POINT] Create layers with easy-to-understand names

I will introduce how to divide the layers and the layer names using the coloring of clogs as an example.

・ Highlight ... "h" layer

・ The second layer of the lizard ... "k2" layer

・ Gradient: "g" layer

 

 

■ Paint a Japanese sword

 

(1) Paint the shadow of the sheath with the [Sign Pen]. Leave it uncoated as it gives the edges a gloss.

 

② Draw a line at the border left unpainted in darker blue than in process ②, and extend with [Color Mix (Blur)].

 

③ Apply the pattern winding. Paint purple on both sides lighter than the undercoat, and add dark and light shades at random.

 

で Draw the luster of the metal and the unevenness of the string of the pattern winding with "for coloring".

Lines with watercolor borders can add a touch like a stroke efficiently, increasing the density of drawing.

 

を Pale pale pink on both ends, reduce the opacity of the layer to 49% and blend in the colors.

 

淡 Apply light blue to the end of the sheath that was left unpainted in step で with a “color paint brush” to create a glossy look.

"Color brush" is a brush with 100% opacity, so you can get a clear color.

 

[POINT] Creating a layer mask

The [Layer Mask] function can prevent the color from overflowing and hide some overlapping items.

A similar function, [Clip at Layer Below], is an effect that refers only to the layer below.

[Layer Mask] saves time because the effect is applied to the entire created folder.

 

In this illustration, the hand is hidden because there is a Japanese sword layer above the hand.

I made a mask in the Japanese sword folder and erased part of the sheath with an eraser.

 

 

■ Apply goldfish

 

(1) Paint the tip of the fin with pink using [Airbrush (soft)], and add a shadow with "For coloring".

 

② In the new layer, draw a wavy line along the body line using “for coloring”.

 

③ Use [Color Mixing (Blur)] to quickly blur the scale line. The point is to leave a little shape.

 

で Draw the wavy lines of the scale on the second layer with “For coloring”. If you slightly shift the line, the density will come out.

 

色 Attach a color along with the outline of the fin with "For coloring". The unevenness is emphasized to give a three-dimensional effect.

 

た ら After drawing scales several times, blend the patterns with [Color Mixing (Blur)].

 

 を Add gloss to head or fin with [G Pen].

The scales are also expressed by making use of the watercolor border of "for coloring".

Place the layer that has been rainbow colored with the [Gradient] tool in the composite mode [Overlay].

Re: I managed to add a change to the monotonous shades of the same / similar colors to make it more vivid.

I often use the [Gradation Map] layer of the [Color Correction Layer], [Black and White], [Sunrise (Bright)], [Level Correction] layer, and [Color Balance] layer.

• The [Gradient map] layer can be created from the [Layer] menu → [New color correction layer] → [Gradient map].

 

 

■ I give depth to color

 

Create a layer with the composition mode set to [Overlay], place it on the clothing layer, and paint it in purple.

Re: Somehow / adjusts the weakness of color. In order to enhance the contrast without turbidity, I put on the same purple color as the clothes with reduced brightness.

 

 

■ Highlight highlights

 

Apply the cream color to the layer of Dodge Mode (Emission) to emphasize the hair highlights.

Re: Somehow / highlighting of gray hair was not so noticeable on the layer in the composite mode [normal], so I adjusted it.

I chose the cream color that I used because it was easier to blend with the picture than white and I used it for clothes.

 

 

■ Adjust the overall color

 

Apply dark purple over the whole person and place it with [Multiply].

Re: It is the shadow of the role that somehow / adapts the whole. It can be made in a short time by shading the shadow with [Eraser (Softening)] from a solid state. I often use it for finishing.

It's good that Surface Pro has an input range of about B5 size though it is compact.

The pen had no grip and was easy to hold and easy to use.

 

We thought that cospa was good in price compared with liquid crystal pen tablet and felt that it was convenient to be able to carry easily.

I wanted to meet when I was in school when I was lost in purchasing a notebook PC ...!

 

Also, CLIP STUDIO PAINT has been used since I started drawing illustrations digitally, but I am glad that it is cheap and has a permanent license!
