How to draw work outfits on a cat
Hello, I'm Lostmemory. I made this tutorial to show you how to dress a little cat in a working outfit. We will detail the tutorial with a fireman's uniform.
Body sketch and line
Before putting on clothes, it is better to start by drawing the body without clothes.
When I draw, I make constructions with sticks and I put circles for the joints, then I make the sketch around this base and thereafter, I put on the clean on another layer (the line). Between the sketch and the line, I changed the pose and the expression of the cat.
Construction clothes
Now that we have the body, it will be easier to put on clothes.
To make clothes faithful to the trades you want, I invite you to take several references. The more you have, the better.
In order to start
1- Put your line in opacity 50%
2- Create a new layer on top of the Line layer and make your clothes on it.
Thanks to the references, I noted several points on the uniform of a firefighter. These points make it possible to assimilate the garment to the trade.
-Large, thick clothing (black or yellow)
Yellow fluorescent strips
Boots
Thick gloves
-Helmet
Attention: Do not forget to put the folds of the clothes.
-when an arm is bent
-on the knees
-belt
-in the neck
Line Clothes
To liner the clothes,
1: the sketch must be obscured - 60%
2: create a new layer and make your line.
Then you can delete or hide the sketch layer.
Unfortunately, the cat's body is visible under the clothes. We can correct this problem.
1: color line to better distinguish clothing from body
2: erase the parts that should not be seen + remove the blue clipping mask when everything is finished
Solid colors
Color is important in the design.
The color code present in the fireman's outfit is:
-Black
-The Red
-Yellow
-grey
I decided to make the little cat in orange to remind the flames and give it a little reckless side.
I put my palette of colors and the places where each color will be applied.
I'm going to put each color on a separate layer. it makes it easier to work on each color.
Shadows and lights
My light source is on the left.
I will now work on each color, keeping in mind that the light comes from the left.
For my shadows, I often work with 4 layers on top of my flat layer.
-The first is a basic shade in normal mode which I then blend with the mixer
-The second is a second shadow on a produced layer. I use the pipette on the previous shade to have the same range of colors as I then blend with the mixer
-The third is a blue shadow put on a layer in product mode (it allows to have a depth to the drawing) which I then blur with the mixer
-the fourth is light on a layer in brightness density mode.
Then we just have to reproduce this technique on each flat color.
Feel free to use textured brushes
To colorize the cat's visor.
1: create a new layer on top of the line layer.
2: color the visor with white,
3: put the layer in opacity 60%
4: erase certain parts with the eraser in brush density 50%
Background
I decided to add a red rectangle with a gradient of orange and yellow. To remind the flames, as well as to put the light in the eyes (by adding a new layer, colorize a white circle on which we will lower the opacity)
Colorization of the Line
I find my illustration a little sad. I colorize the line.
To do so:
1: I add a layer over the line
2: I put it on a clipping mask
3: use of the airbrush using brown, orange and red
Soften colors
I always find my illustration dull.
- New layer
Degraded tool
Layer Incrustration mode
-opacity 30%
Finished Illustration
The illustration is finished. You can now make outfits and uniforms for any trade.
Thank you. I hope you enjoyed it.
