It is very popular in new artists or with a little more experience that it is said that there are some elements when drawing that are almost impossible, such as the famous feet.

Although they are complex, we can help ourselves with a technique that, if mastered, will make not only the feet, but any anatomical structure easier to understand and therefore easier to transmit in our projects.

What you want to achieve with this little tutorial is to understand, know and internalize the 3D elements in a 2D plane, which will serve as a tool when creating Feet, Legs and much more...

Understanding 3D Volume

From the beginning it is taught that everything that is drawn is always governed by a basic structure, composed of geometric figures.

Although these geometric figures need to be represented in 3D, on a 2D Plane, that part is the one that begins to generate conflicts and confusion in some people.

This has a simple fix, constant practice and compression of the 3D elements.

Below we will see a representation of the most common elements when making any structure.

We have to start with the Sphere, an element that functions as a joint for the structure of the arms, ankles, elbows, shoulders, etc...

The cube with all its variants is going to make the basic construction box.

To get to the most important one, which is the composite figure, because no part of the body is completely cubic and less spherical, it is with this element, the composite figure, that many hours are practiced to be able to use it in our favor.

Plans and Perspectives

To continue advancing in the world of 3D figures, you have to understand that they have planes and most of the time they are also governed by perspectives, but since this tutorial is not aimed at perspectives, we are going to keep things in the same line.

These planes help to guide us when it comes to being able to form the composite figures, then we will see these planes represented in a cube.

Understanding that all the figures have planes, we will be able to build any structure that we need in this case the legs and feet.

A small exercise will be carried out with which you will be able to better visualize the plans and what your intention would be.

With these silhouettes the intention would be to mark a plane through which a figure could be made.

Once these planes have been marked, that figure is projected from their points.

In this case cylinders that generate a new plane with which we are going to complete the figure, this practice can be taken to the limit and create everything you want.

The more complex the practice of the 3D elements becomes, the easier it will be to make the figures.

Structure of Feet and Legs

After seeing the basic parts of the 3D figures we continue with the construction of the feet and legs, this will make a general representation and the more practice and references you have, you can customize it to your line of work and adapt it for your own projects. .

In this Image you can see a front and profile view of the basic structure of a leg, which is made up of several figures like the ones seen previously.

For these 3/4 models we apply the above in order to build legs that have and give a sense of volume, with the main intention of creating a volumetry in a 2D plane.

Using this method in the references we will be able to understand different positions of the legs and at different angles. (references are always important to improve any technique).

Now we see again a profile, frontal and 3/4 view of a basic structure of feet, we will simplify in 4 basic ways in which we can decompose the foot.

With these structures in mind we can practice with references in order to make more complex positions and angles.

Now taking into account the basic construction, we can give the feet a more organic shape, but of course we cannot forget the fingers, these are built in the same way as we have been doing the practices, in this way any type of shape or finger position.

Now in a feet reference we will apply these steps so that an even more organic example remains.

Without neglecting the construction of the fingers in the same way that we saw previously.

Now after seeing this information, you have basic tools that can help you, not only to make feet and legs, but you can also use these techniques for any part or element of the body, thus making a great advance in anatomy.

conclusion

Do not forget that this is just one way of doing it, there are many methods and ideas that you can investigate in order to "combine" and create something that works for you in your line of work, I invite you to read, investigate and study a lot about the subject of anatomy .

Practice will make things as difficult as hands and feet become some of the coolest things to draw because of their complexity, making drawing cute hands or feet even more satisfying in the end.

I hope I have clearly explained the ideas that I wanted to share with you, I am a relatively new illustrator, but I like the subject of anatomy a lot and I wanted to take the opportunity to share with the Clip Studio Paint community,

Again, I highly recommend practicing from the most basic because with a strong and clear foundation, complex things become simple.

I invite you to my Instagram where you can see more works of what I am passionate about.

Thank you for taking the time to read this little tutorial.

Thank you!!
