Draw Gloves in 5 Min!
Hi everyone! This tutorial will show you how to get the basic shape and folds of the gloves down.
1. Hand Anatomy
1. Draw the hands first!
While a lot of people think drawing gloves will help them hide their inexperience with drawing hands, the truth is that it’s actually the opposite. In order to draw a good glove, you must know the basic anatomy of the hands.
If you’re not sure how to do these, I recommend checking out Proko’s How to draw Hands video on youtube. He goes really into details.
2. Shaping the gloves
Now that I got the basic anatomy of the hands down, I will lower the opacity of the sketching layer so we can create the outer form of the gloves.
Make an outline of the hands. Place curves based on where the bones are located.
Due to the thick pads from the gloves, we will be seeing these folds between the fingers. If the gloves are thinner, there may be more of a gap, and the fingers may also seem longer and less stubby
*** Stitches lines make a big different when you’re drawing gloves since it creates more dimensions for the fabric
3. Loose render to better understand shape
A tip for rendering leather is to put immediate light right next to immediate dark, and create these stark contrast between black and white.
Put the highlights where the folds and fabrics will rise up, and add shine where the area is mostly flat with lesser folds.
I know it looks ugly at first but trust the process. It’ll look better once we go in with blends and soften the shadow.
4. The other side
Now if you want to draw the gloves from the palm side, we’ll still be doing pretty much the same thing
Start with hand anatomy – don’t skip this part!
Fluffy gloves on top – this part decides how thick you want your gloves to be
You can go down to the details after this with some references, since the lighting on gloves can be tricky, but this is how to draw gloves in realistic form within in a few minutes! Good luck!
