Moon halo and snowy night
This is an illustration that recreates the most fantastical snowscape I have ever encountered.
Snow falls slowly, so it is not uncommon for it to snow on a clear day, but I have only encountered weather conditions such as dense snowfall on a bright, moonlit night with a moon halo once in my life, so it must be an extremely rare phenomenon after all.
This time, I will be showing you the making of this illustration.
Summary
① For the rough sketch, first decide on the general composition and shape, and then apply perspective to make it look nicer.
② This time, use a lighter color than you would normally choose for a night view.
③ First paint the clouds in the moonlight with a whitish color so that their shapes are visible, then lock the transparent pixels and add shadows.
④ It's easier to create the right color by first placing a temporary color and then using the eyedropper to create an intermediate color.
⑤ For the snowfall in the foreground, choose white, and for the clouds in the background, choose a darker color than the city and the brightly lit clouds.
Although it's a very unusual scene,
the techniques used are generally applicable when drawing landscape illustrations,
so please use it as a reference.
That's all for now.
