3.- Hierarchy between characters
It's important to establish a hierarchy between your characters, this will allow you to categorize them in:
1.- Main characters
2.- Secondary characters
3.- Tertiary characters
Once you have established your characters by the importance in the story, you will know which characters must stand out in the poster.
4.- Color theory
These are some examples of what a color can represent. Choose the color wisely because it's important just to choose one color for your poster. If you add more than one color, your poster will look saturated and will not feel unified.
5.- Poster composition
When you are drawing a movie poster you will need a vertical composition using the rule of thirds. It's important to trace a margin where you can't draw anything.
6.- Types of posters
- Heads Poster
In this type of poster you draw the heads of your characters looking outside in different directions. This poster shows the characters and tells the audience the importance of every character.
- Solo Poster
This poster can only be used when you have only one important character in your movie. It shows your character strong, important and powerful. You have the character in an American shot.
- Dynamic Poses Poster
This type of poster is used when you need to tell a long and complex story in your movie. By drawing your characters in different dynamic poses, you tell a mini story in the poster.
7.- Poster size
If you want the most accurate poster size you can see that the real size is 2592 x 3840 pixels.
By dividing these measures by 3 you can get a more accurate composition in your poster.
8.- Sketching the Composition
You can head a really good composition by drawing a Figure and then sketching the head of your characters.
For the solo poster, you only need to draw your main character in a American Shot.
Once you are done with the Sketch, you can now do the Line Art.
9.- Approximate Color
Approximate Color is a window that gives more colors with more Value and Saturation.
Coloring with Approximate Color allows you to get lighter and darker shades very easy.
10.- Title with Text tool
The titles must be written in uppercase and cant be so long, so people can remember the title,
11.- Final results
These are the final results. I hope that you have learned something as well as I have.
Thank you.
