Using Asset Material in Illustrations
Hi! Today I want to show you how I use material assets in Clip Studio Paint to create illustrations.
Using asset materials can save time and also finish our illustrations easily. Especially if you are a comic artist, using asset materials helps you to save time in creating your comics. I usually use material assets to help me draw character poses, create effects or backgrounds, and more.
1. 3D figure for drawing various poses
3D models can help you make your drawing process faster and also make it easier for you to draw a character pose. I have used this 3d model to make it easier for me to draw a character before
Sometimes there are times when I have trouble drawing character poses and also when I want to create a character illustration quickly, this is when I use 3d figure to overcome this.
This is an example of a 3D figure that I use in my drawing process.
Here's how to add a 3D figure to the canvas
Open 3d material file in csp
Select the one you want to use then drag it towards the canvas
Now you have a 3D figure to make your drawing process easier.
For poses, select the pose you want to use.
Then drag it towards the 3d figure on the canvas.
set the position as you wish, and you're done ^_^
2. Using assets to create effects
Here, I plan to drawing a girl who controls her powers. I will use material assets to create the power effect.
I will give a dark colored background because here I want to give a fire effect
Then i started to give fire effect with this brush
Using liquify to adjust the position
Then, i create a new layer below the fire layer. i change the new layer to Add(Glow)
Using the soft airbrush, i give a little extra light effect to the fire, and don't forget to readjust the lighting on the character (here the lighting on my character still doesn't match the fire effect)
then I will give a blur effect to the fire, select the part you want to blur using Lasso
go to Filter > Blur > Motion blur
Adjust the strength and the angle
and here we go ^_^
For another effect, I used the battlefield dust brush to give a spark effect from the fire.
then i giving final touch the background just by giving it a little color gradation
And..Finish!
3. Material assets to provide details on the background
Here I have prepared a illustration of a witch who is making a potion in her workroom.
As you can see, the background of the drawing still looks a bit empty. So on the bookshelf I gave it a detailed wood texture effect.
it makes it look better doesn't it? i also use it on the floor, walls and ceilings
next details on the bulletin board, I use this brush to give details so the paper doesn't look plain
After that, I just added a little texture to the paper with a watercolor brush [rough wash]
Now it's time to add books and items to the bookshelf.
After making a straight line with this brush, then I select the layer and choose free transform to adjust its position.
This is after I added everything that was needed
Once everything is added and adjusted, don't forget to adjust the brightness of the object to match the background.
add a new layer then change it to a glow dodge layer, after that I use the dust of light brush to give a light effect so that the drawing looks more alive
the glowing dust effect makes it seem like it has a magical feel.
And this is the final results
The background looks better than before ^_^

So this is how I use materials in the illustrations I make, there are still many things I'm missing but I hope this can be useful for readers.
Thank you for visiting and have a nice day! 🌼
