Using Clip Studio Paint’s LT conversion, you can convert photos into backgrounds with one click, making it a powerful timesaver.

However, converted images are too detailed, and do not match the style of the characters without some tweaking.

The easiest way to make an image look more comic-like is to add a sky screentone.

In this tutorial, I’ll show how I made an Arabian mosque under a full moon.

The Power of Sky Screentones: Arabian Architecture and LT Conversion.

Importing a photo into Clip Studio Paint, I converted the image into line art using [LT conversion of layer.]

Thin outlines were painted over with vector lines, and I added black fill in the shadows.

While this does take some time, it’s still better than drawing from scratch.

Once the additional lines were added, I erased the white background was erased, leaving a transparent background for the mosque.

Behind the mosque, I added a night sky screentone, and added a white border to the mosque.

Just by adding a sky screentone, the image starts to look like a comic panel.

Note: I’m using my Night Sky Tone 02.

While erasing unnecessary details, I added screentones to the shadows,

and cleaned up the entire image.

Next, I balanced the shadows of the night sky and the mosque.

Clicking a layer while holding Ctrl, I selected the 10% screen tone layer and added a gradient over it.

I then duplicated the mosque's background, and created the shadow of the mosque.

First, I transformed the background by flipping it vertically and free transforming, then pasted a screentone on top of it.

Hatching was added to the borders of the ground and the mosque.

In the day, shadows become lighter as they move away from objects, but in the evening and night, the opposite is true.

I painted the side of the mosque black, making the night darker.

Finally, the decorations of the mosque were fixed.

Outlines of the railing were added, shadows were added to the roof decorations, and shadows and hatching were added to the back of the roofing.

The completed main tower.

The mosque under the full moon is complete!

The key to speeding up your work is to know which parts to fix and which parts to leave as they are.
