Compatible with Clip Studio Paint Ver. 1.10.0

 

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) files are a type of 2D vector data file format which do not lose image quality when scaled up or down.

SVG files made in vector editing software (drawing software) such as Adobe Illustrator can be loaded into Clip Studio Paint as vector layers.

Also, by exporting vector layers made in Clip Studio Paint as SVG files, you can load them into other applications.

 

Note:

SVG files exported by Clip Studio Paint only contain line data.

Settings for brush size due to pen pressure, line tapering, brush tip image and anti-aliasing settings are not exported.

Even lines drawn with the [Decoration] tool will only contain information on the brush color and size selected at the time of drawing.

 

[1] Importing SVG Files

1. Select [Import] > [Vector] from the [File] menu.

 

2. Select the SVG file(s) and click OK.

*You can load multiple files at once.

Each file will be loaded to the canvas as a separate vector layer.

 

Once loaded, you can edit as you would a normal vector layer.

Note:

Lines in SVG files are loaded as vectors.

Fill data is loaded as a vector outline.

 

　■ Things you can do with your imported vector data

Once vector data has been imported to Clip Studio Paint, you can add edits with tools such as the [Object] tool and [Correct line] tool.

 

By creating a ruler with the [Ruler from vector] command, you can redraw lines with varying pressure.

You can draw along the rulers made with [Layer] menu > [Ruler/Frame] > [Ruler from vector] with the [Real pencil].

 

 

 

■ Filling in Vector Lines

 

You can fill in vector lines by creating a Raster layer and using the [Fill] tool > [Refer other layers].

 

If you check [Fill up to vector path] in the [Sub tool] palette, you can fill right up to the center (path) of your vector line.

 

 

 

■ Use [Selection from Ruler] to fill in all of the vector lines at once.

 

By using the [Selection from Ruler] command with a raster layer, you can fill in all closed vector lines at once.

 

1. Create a ruler with [Layer] menu > [Ruler/Frame] > [Ruler from vector].

2. You can use the [Delete] key to delete any unwanted vector lines.

3. Create a selection with [Layer] menu > [Ruler/Frame] > [Selection from Ruler].

4. Click [New Raster Layer] in the [Layer] palette.

5. Click [Edit] Menu > [Fill].

 

6. Select individual rulers with the [Object] tool and create a [Selection from Ruler] to delete any unwanted fills.

[2] Exporting Vector Layers as SVG Files

1. Select the vector layer you would like to export.

(By selecting multiple layers, you can export all as a single SVG file.)

Note: When there is no Vector layer selected, you will not be able to select [Export vectors].

 

2. Select the [File] menu > [Special Export] > [Export vectors].

The selected vector layer(s) is/are exported as a single SVG file.

 

[3] Copying & Pasting between Apps (Windows/macOS)

You can easily copy and paste with the clipboard from Clip Studio Paint to Adobe Illustrator and vice versa.

 

　■ From Illustrator to Clip Studio Paint

Lines and Fills copied to the clipboard on Illustrator are pasted as vector layers when pasted into Clip Studio Paint.

Fill data appears as a vector outline.

 

Note: Troubleshooting

Check the following settings if copy & paste isn’t working for you.

 

Make sure that [When SVG code is saved to clipboard] is set to [Convert to vector lines] in [Preferences] > [Command] > [Paste].

[File] menu ([Clip Studio Paint] menu on the macOS version) > [Preferences] > [Command]

 

　■ From Clip Studio Paint to Illustrator

1. Select a vector layer.

(By selecting multiple layers, you can copy all as a single SVG file.)

 

2. Select [Edit] menu > [Copy vectors as SVG] to copy SVG data to the clipboard.

 

3. When you [Paste] in Illustrator, lines will be pasted at a uniform thickness.
