Write like an Egyptian
Have you wanted to improve your egyptian artwork but don’t know where to start? Well bellow I have a list of resources that can help you on that journey, as it has mine.
Hieroglyphs are very difficult to learn when you’re on your own, and so you just want to make stuff up, maybe just throw random hieroglyphs on a wall and hope for the best.
Thankfully, with the resources provided bellow, you shouldn’t feel the need to do that. Or, if you still do want to do that, at least you’ll have a bigger pool of hieroglyphs to pick from.
Compatible Hieroglyphic Fonts
There are 3 fonts that I have found work well with Clip Studio Paint. The first is from google itself, and can be written by just copying the unicode characters for hieroglyphs and just pasting them into clip while the font is active.
The second one is NewGardiner, and it’s the one I often use most. To use it, you will need to copy and paste glyphs from the PDF included with the file.
The third is a bit more of an experimental one. It seems to work using both the copy paste method from it’s included pdf, and the keys on your keyboard. I haven’t spent as much time with this font, but it seems promising.
Your Egyptian ABC's and 123's (AKA your uniliteral, biliteral, and triliteral signs)
The two websites included for these are Wikipedia and Bibalex (aka Bibliotheca Alexandrina) these are both fantastic free resources for learning your various signs and what sounds they correlate with.
All the Hieroglyphs (AKA Gardiners List)
The two resources I’ve included here show the entire list of hieroglyphs from the basic gardiner list. Though one (The Polychrome Hieroglyph Research Project) shows real examples of the hieroglyphs in colour.
Dictionaries
Both of these resources are great for finding specific words.
Bibalex is great for finding words through 3 main methods, via searching the word in english, by searching the transliteration, or by searching by hieroglyphic signs.
The PDF one is also great to search, though you will have to use your browser / PDF reader of choices search by word function to delve through it quickly.
Other resources for Egyptian Hieroglyph images
I have also decided to include cowofgold_essay from reddit as an extra resource. Not only do they do great work, but they include a lot of invaluable image materials to study for hieroglyphs and egyptian artwork.
