[What is a signature logo/logotype?]

◆Signature means a sign or signature, and a designed and stylized logo is called a signature logo.

They are often used on sports athletes' branded products and corporate products.

◆Logotypes are stylized letters of company names, product names, etc. This logotype is the most commonly seen.

In recent years, AI-generated watermarks have become a popular way to protect artworks and provide proof of authenticity, so once you create one, it can also be used as an original watermark, which can be useful in your creative activities.

◆Let's create a signature logotype right away

There are many ways to make a logo, but first try making one in a way that suits you.

1) Design and create from your own signature

2) Create from a font

3) Create your own logotype from scratch

*In this example, we have modeled it after a fictional author named "Kurihoshi Nuriko."

*The logo image in each example has been overlaid on the artwork by applying Layer "Composite Mode" > "Burn (Linear)."

1) Create a design from your own handwritten signature

Write the signature you want to attach to your work and design it with the text tool.

This alone is enough to use as a signature logo.

[How to make it]

Load the image of your handwritten signature,

go to Edit > Convert Brightness to Transparency (B) to make the background transparent,

then add the necessary text and design, and you're done.

2) Create with a font

Choose a font that suits your work. The proportionality (width and balance) of letters is different for Western and Japanese characters, so it is a good idea to adjust it by narrowing the letters.

The finished product is called a logotype.

[How to create it]

Write the letters using "Text" under "Tools" and create a frame using "Rectangle".

3) Create your own logotype from scratch

How to create a logotype from scratch without using any fonts.

This is the most time-consuming step, but it's easy to make if you know the tricks.

Once you get used to it, it's a breeze. (I wonder how it will be translated in foreign countries.)

[How to make it]

Create a new document in A4 size, make the base font semi-transparent, and use it as a sketch. Lock the sketch layer.

When you start out creating the logo, make it as large as possible, then make it smaller during the editing process

so it won't deteriorate during editing and it's easy to work with.

The font used for the screen commentary was created using "MS P Gothic Standard."

Using the proportionality of the "MS P Gothic Standard" font as a guide,

I make the sketch's characters about 50% transparent to give them a tracing look.

I create a new raster layer and duplicate, stretch and pull the objects that will be the vertical, horizontal and stroke strokes and the basic strokes of the characters to create more and more.

Once one stroke of the character is complete, use "Layer Conversion" in the "Layer Menu" to make it an "Image Material Layer," and temporarily edit each part, correcting each part as you go.

Don't think too hard about it, it should look roughly like this.

I'm sorry that it's going at a crazy speed, almost like the Tokaido Chuo Linear Shinkansen. (Video)

Please use your amazing eyes to discern the motion.

As you create each character, put them in a folder. For four characters, put them in four folders, and so on.

That way you won't get lost as to which layer is which character.

All that's left to do is decorate it as you imagine and your original logotype is complete.

◆How to use your original signature logo and logotype

You can also use your original logo as a watermark for your work.

1) Load the logo image you created into the target work image data.

(Explanation) > 3) Create your own logotype from scratch

In the same way as explained in this section, convert the logo image layer into an "image material layer".

(See image)

2) Activate the Operation** icon in the tool palette,

call up the Subtool Details Screen and confirm that Tiling is there.

Note) If it is still a raster layer, the "Tiling" item will not appear.

3) Check "Tiling" and set it to "Wrap, select "□■□" Left/Right as the tiling direction, and the side-by-side stamps will be created in real time as shown in the reference screen, at which point you can use scaling and rotation to adjust the overall balance.

*) The reference image for this example has been tiled by adding a white background area to the plain data in advance to create spacing (balance) for the logo.

4) Go to Edit > Convert Luminance to Transparency to remove the white color behind the logo,

and finally add color to the logotype image and overlay it on the artwork by selecting "Linear Burn" under the layer's "Blending Mode" to complete the process.

(Completed sample #1)

Logotype image layer blending mode "Burn (Linear)"

It is very effective even just at your feet.

(Completed sample No. 2)

Logotype image layer blending mode "Screen"

It's a bold design reminiscent of a public bath ticket.

You can also try changing the blending mode to your liking.

The method for creating the watermark shown in this example was done completely by hand, but you can also use it in the same way by calling up the image from the watermark using "Timelapse Recording" and "Merge Images and Export" from "File" in Clipstudio.

Afterword

I finished the explanation before giving you any time to think about who "Kurihoshi Nuriko" really was (lol), but original logos that I create myself can be easily reused in the future just by overlaying them on my works, and I can also save them in the cloud and make modifications to them. I feel that these original logos are like my own emblems in my works.

I wish you all the best in your creative lives.
