8. Finishing (Adjustment/Effects)
[1] Background
① I paint the background in the same way as lesson 7’s wings.
I first planned to make the background a shrine, but thought that a torii would fit the concept better.
② The cherry blossom patterns were still a bit noisy, so I tried to blend them with a transparent [Airbrush].
③ With a new brush, I scattered gold foil to make it gorgeous.
■ How to create a brush with imported images
Open the image you want to brush with CLIP STUDIO PAINT and change the expression color to [Gray] from the [Layer] menu -> [Convert Layer].
If you set the [Expression Color] to [Gray], you can draw using main/sub colors when using the created brush.
Select [Edit] menu > [Register Material] > [Image].
From the [Material Property] dialog box, turn on [Use for brush tip shape], and select [Location to save material].
From the [Sub Tool] palette, select [Create custom sub tool].
In the dialog box, output and input is set to [Direct Draw] and [Pen], and the name is set to [Gold Leaf]. Pressing [OK] generate the “Gold Leaf” sub tool.
I select [Brush Tip] in the [Window] menu > [Sub Tool Detail] palette, select the image material imported from [Material], and click [Register all settings to initial settings].
The gold leaf sub tool is ready.
The stroke settings are shown below.

[2] Effects
I will set the new layer’s blending mode to [Add (Glow)] and add light and petals.
Like the gold leaf, petals were made with a brush made from a material.
After selecting [Duplicate Layer] from the [Layer] menu, I add a glowing effect with [Filter] > [Blur] > [Gaussian Blur].
The numerical value of [Area to Blur] is 90.
In the final step, I make a new layer for the highlights of the gold decoration, and set the blending mode to [Add (Glow)] to add subtle light.
