- MANGA DRAW ON CLP -
Hi !
I made this tutorial to share my knowledge in manga drawing with the different feathers as well as the wefts!
I hope it will be simple to understand and fun to watch, if you ever have problems to understand or many comments to make, I'm listening!
Here is the drawing I made, I imagined a girl who is walking around town quietly (let's take advantage of bringing our characters out while we are confined to our home), I imagined that she was making a movement with her arm right, which explains the position of his shoulder.
1 - Lineart
To make the line of my drawing after having made my draft, I chose to use two different feathers:
The G-pen is most commonly used in traditional manga, it is used to make the main features such as body contours, hair (sometimes) and others. I decided to use it in most of my drawing for the body, face and hair.
The Maru-pen is also a feather used in drawing traditional manga too. It is used to draw small details and fine lines, such as the details of the eyes, redness on the cheeks and some small hair. I used it here only to make small flying hair.
2 - The frames
In the manges, the shadows and the colors of certain things are made with wefts, which is a repeated pattern, with small black or white dots, more or less close together to give more or less dark colors.
Clip painted studio allows us to use many of these frames:
(These for example)
To be able to put these frames on my drawing, in special places, I used the "quick mask" tool, which allows you to select parts of the drawing and then insert colors, but also frames.
To do this, I go to the "selection area" menu and I choose the "quick mask" tool.
Once done, I draw on my drawing the places I want to shade with the frame, like this:
To be able to put the frames, I make a right click (or I remain pressed for the iPad), on the layer of quick mask, I go in "selection from the layer" then in "create the selected zone".
Once done, you can hide the quick mask layer, you should get this:
The selected areas should be surrounded by small dotted lines. You can then drag the frames of your choice into space, or simply use this buttons below the selected areas:
Once you've chosen your frame, here's what you should get:
I then repeated the same process for the hair, here is the result:
3 - Le Background
Once I had finished my character, I looked into the issue of substance. I wanted my character to be walking in town, so I wanted to put buildings, or house.
So I used the backgrounds available to the application. They are made for manga drawing in black and white, Clip Studio Paint offers a large variety like this:
This is a very useful feature for working quickly and well, but also for those who still find it difficult to draw buildings and decorations (like me)
My choice fell on this one, which is a storefront, I found it quite calm and relaxing, even jovial, it fit perfectly with the feeling that I wanted my drawing to give.
4 - Finishes
I used the maru-pen to make some small flying hair and cute redness on her cheeks.
And so I finished my illustration of traditional manga in black and white:
This is how my car ends, I hope it helped you: 3
