Just like with my previous tips, Clip Studio Paint allows us to achieve a traditional style digitally. The last post was about watercolor, today we're going to focus on the colored pencil technique! ( ✌︎'ω')✌︎
1. WHICH PENCIL TO CHOOSE? ( ̄^ ̄)ゞ
For the line art, I first used the "drawing pencil" tool, set up like this:
Then, to color the drawing, I logically used the "colored pencil" tool, set up like this:
2. CREATING THE DRAWING (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)
Now that we've seen which pencils to use for this colored pencil imitation drawing, let's look together at the complete creation of this magnificent work of art! (((o(゚▽゚)o)))
A. The Draft
So I first made a small draft, whose color I changed, and slightly lowered the opacity to be able to trace my line art over it.
For those who don't know how to change a layer's color, here's a gift, I'll show you how to do it o(`ω´ )o
Just go to this tab and choose the option visible in the photo.
You can then select the color of your choice:
B. The Line Art
Once my draft is ready, I will draw my line art cleanly ( ̄∇ ̄)
So I equip myself with the "drawing pencil" tool and start my line art, in a different color from my draft (LOGICAL, you might say, I know, I know, but oh well (・∀・))
C. The Paper
To color and thus imitate the colored pencil effect, I first placed a drawing paper underneath, exactly as I did for the watercolor tips (^_^)
The "paper" object that I used as a base for my drawing is in this tab, and it is set up this way. I colored it yellow to match the image and the very colorful pop atmosphere I wanted for this drawing. Because for me, colored pencils are very colorful, so I wanted my drawing to reflect those colors ٩( 'ω' )و
D. Coloring
Now that the delicate task of line art and paper is done, we're going to move on to coloring the drawing, in the colored pencil style!
I only used the "colored pencil" tool presented at the beginning of these tips. The pencil size setting depends on the drawing, I think, as well as the artist's preferences, so the tool size doesn't really matter. But if you're interested in the one I used, it's at the very top, with the pencil presentation (°▽°)
I tried to imitate the same movements I make myself when coloring with colored pencils, as shown below:
So I colored the drawing, starting with the skin, then the rest.
As for the skin, I only did the shadows, to give it a very light and rosy complexion (๑>◡<๑)
And in the order of the photos, I colored the rest of the drawing:
E. Finishing Touches
To finish this magnificent drawing (yes, my ego is doing just fine, thank you ( ̄▽ ̄)), I just made some simple finishing touches:
So I added a kind of dotted frame around the character, and wrote "POP" with very cheerful colors to give that impression of very vibrant colors!
F. Result
This tutorial is now finished! I hope it has helped you, especially for those who are just starting out here and are overwhelmed with all the available options. I also hope it has helped you see things more clearly! (`・ω・´)
