Hello everyone

In this tutorial I share with you a quick and easy coloring technique to paint a chic dish with the selection area on CLIP STUDIO PAINT.

the sketch

On a new pixelation layer with the realistic pencil tool, let's draw our plate and its composition.

Let's adjust the size of the pencil in the palette (property of the tool) to make it slightly thicker for a realistic rendering of a still life.

Let's draw lightly just to create guides for the colors.

Unlike character designs, this one does not necessarily require inking.

The colour

Let's prepare our illustration for color.

To give it a watercolor effect,

Let's apply a texture by going to materials and texture, select Texture and then Fine Texture.

Then in the Layer Properties palette, >> Effect, select the Combine Textures option.

The texture layer at the top then the sketch below it,

We will now create a new raster layer below our sketch.

On this new layer we are going with the paint bucket, colorize it with a pale yellow as background color.

Then we create a new color layer above.

With the Selection Area tool (M), let's draw the shape of our illustration and then color this shape with a color slightly darker than our background color, in order to be able to better distinguish the elements.

This color will be our basic color.

Depending on the number of items you want to color, create new raster layers above the basic color layer.

Then put each of its new ones as a clipping mask on the layer of the basic color

So whatever we do will only appear in the form of the basic color.

Always with the Selection Area tool (M) starting from bottom to top,

On our first Clipping Mask layer, let's draw the basic color shapes of our dish, then with the paint bucket tool color it. Let's do the same with the other elements of our plate.

Then on the top layer still in clipping mask, draw the areas that will constitute the shadow areas of our dish, then with the paint bucket tool let's color it with a slightly darker value of our basic color, repeat the same process with the other elements of our plate.

And finally, on the top layer still in clipping mask, draw the areas that will constitute the light areas of our dish, then with the paint bucket tool let's color it with a slightly lighter value of our basic color, let's repeat the same process with the other elements of our plate.

Finishing details

At the very top of our layers, let's create a new layer to add effects like small brushstrokes with the white tint on certain outline made by the pencil to give it even more proximity to a watercolor work.

NB: these areas are places on the plate or dish that receive light, think about it before doing it.

This is the end of this Tutorial,

I hope it was very useful to you and allowed you to try new things.
