Hi there! My name is Dayana, today I bring you a tutorial to draw cars. Let's start from an easy level, the only thing we must have in basic notions of perspective (do not worry that Clip Studio Paint has an incredible tool for it) and use as boxes as the base of our vehicle.

Basic scheme

As you can see in the image of this vehicle we need: Rectangle, trapezoid and the circle. Also keep in mind that there are cars that have the hood more inclined than the trunk, this is very important so that our drawing looks coherent.

Because; it is better to have a reference, you can check what I tell you by drawing line 2.

Set up the perspective ruler tool

We are going to create a new canvas, then we right click on any of the layers, select Ruler / Vignette and then Create perspective ruler.

For this tutorial we are going to draw vehicles from one and two vanishing points, select the one that is most convenient, in my case I will start with a car from the perspective of 1 point.

Two things happened here, the first: I usually do this for convenience (therefore, it is optional) I place the layer that contains the Perspective Ruler at the end of my layers. The second thing: I placed the horizon line at the top of the canvas.

Automobile: A vanishing point.

Here the lateral side of the vehicle and part of its upper plane can be fully observed.

Draw a rectangle, then trace the top of your vehicle as you can see in the image. The next step is to locate the guides where we can represent the volume of our car.

To add the guides, we right click on any node (the white circles that have our guide lines), and select Add guide.

We draw the lines that leak towards our point and trace, you can do it with the Drawing tool and select Straight line, or alternatively use the brush that you like the most to sketch, you should not fear for the pulse, Clip Studio Paint takes care of that you do not make mistakes when escaping.

We draw some guide lines in the center of the car, we can also mark the slope of the hood as line number 1 and the slight elevation of the trunk as line number 2.

Then in a new layer and lowering the opacity, you can trace the body of your car, it is a matter of rounding the edges, here I make the inclination of the hood and the elevation of the trunk more evident, I recommend that you use references, many times our "memory ”Makes us draw cars similar to the ones we drew as children.

We clean the line and paint to taste.

Automobile: Two Vanishing Points

This view is quite useful for simulating moving cars.

Right click on any layer, select Ruler / Bullet, two vanishing points. You can also do it from the vanishing point that we had, but in particular I don't feel comfortable that way.

We draw our rectangle (box) a little closer to the horizon line.

We will draw our guides, for this we will first find the center of our figure. To get there, we draw an X on the face that is in front, at the point where the lines meet we draw a line towards the bottom of the box, notice that this line runs towards the point on the left side.

Then, we draw a line on the upper face (which runs towards our right point), this to locate the trapezoid.

Look at the clip where I show how I draw the lines, it is important to escape towards the perspective points, it may seem that it looks weird, but we are not wrong.

To correctly locate the wheels, we add another guide line and put it on the lateral side, this helps not to make mistakes when drawing them, you can use the Ellipse for it.

In this case the wheels should not be drawn completely round, from this perspective they are deformed.

Adjust the shape of the body, round the edges of the car, lights and windows, this is an example of a very simple car.

Car # 2: Two Vanishing Points

The further we draw from the horizon line, the more visible the top will be, and the side face will get narrower. This is a great shot to simulate movement, it seems that the car is coming towards the viewer.

Here I exaggerated the lines to reiterate that everything must flow towards our perspective points.

We repeat the previous steps, locate the center of the figure, draw the trapezoid and the wheels.

We fix the line and paint to taste.

Car No. 3: Two Vanishing Points

We continue to draw from two vanishing points, but first, you must locate the horizon line at the center or lower on your canvas. Then we draw a line in the center and run two lines to the right and two lines to the left.

The upper part of the body must be located on the horizon line, we locate the center as in previous exercises.

Remember, to locate the wheels well, we use another guide, also this time, the wheels if they look a little rounder.

Do not forget that we must take into account the lines already drawn to round the body of our car, or it will look very strange, pay attention to the guides.

Here I show you what the top and side face looks like depending on the location of the horizon line and our car, in addition to of course, the number of vanishing points.

I drew the red car from a reference, instead the other three remembering what a car is like. As you can see, things are missing, so as an exercise to let go of your hand and understand what a car looks like from different perspectives, that's fine. But it is always better to use references.

Extra Tip: Wheels

Be careful when drawing the tires, as you can see, if our car is located in this way, the wheels are not completely round and vertical, you must draw the center lines at correct angles, draw them a little oval.

The size also varies, depending on how close it is to the viewer's eye.

I hope this tutorial will help you draw cars, go ahead and experiment with vanishing points, it seeks to simplify your processes, and then you can unleash the details and improve it as much as you want.

Greetings!!
