This tutorial will be your initial guide to use the remote control mode that Clip Studio Paint for mobile has, in order to improve your productivity in the process of your illustrations. It's a great option for small workspaces, but also for those who have their keyboard too far away to access shortcuts. For this reason, I will show you each gear mode with explanatory examples to fully exploit each configuration, as well as small tips or advice.

Download Clip Studio Paint on mobile

First download the Clip Studio Paint app from the official page. There are several options including Android, Galaxy.

Remote control mode

When entering the program, it shows us 3 options to log in, for this tutorial you can use the "Use free for 60 min", time does not run when you use Control Mode.

To connect to remote control mode, we go to our computer and select this cell phone icon that is in the command bar.

You can also find it in: File → connect to smartphone.

Then on our cell phone we go to the same icon and press "scan QR code". We give "allow" in permission. And how you can see the connection is immediate.

Change of functions:

The first thing that opens is quick access. At the bottom we find the gear modes:

1. Quick access.

2. Circle of colors.

3. Gesture panel.

4. Subview Palette.

5. Mix colors.

6. Preview webtoon.

7. Change mode.

8. Settings.

 

1. QUICK ACCESS

Before starting I will explain point 8. Settings. When we rotate the phone horizontally, the “mode change button layout” is set to “align left”. We can “align right” to make you feel more comfortable and not to accidentally press the “command bar” buttons.

Other settings:

■ How to display the quick access list: there are 3 options:

a. Button: shows the sets that we have in quick access.

b. None - Displays the current set only. For example, set 1.

c. Popup: you can select the set from the bar.

■ Vibration: You can turn the vibration that occurs when you touch the screen on or off.

■ Suspension: I recommend you to keep the option marked, in this way you will avoid turning on the screen from time to time.

 

Now, the shortcut is the same as the one we found from our computer.

How can I modify the shortcuts?

You can modify the shortcuts by selecting the wrench. It opens directly in the program from the computer along with its settings. It has all the tools to choose from, and it will depend on the way you work.

● You can add by dragging the tools to the access panel.

● You can add by pressing the button, excuse the redundancy, “add”.

● You can even select the tools from the work window, we can do this option with any of these options.

■ To have a better organization I recommend you use “add separators”. We can do it from the “shortcut settings”.

I recommend you to make the separators directly from the quick access panel, dragging the tool. You save time ♡ .

Shortcut settings.

The settings are found by clicking on the 3 lines. From here you can:

● “Create a new set.

● “Manage set”: change the name.

● “delete set”.

● “Toggle set”: this option works best when “display list of sets” is unchecked, so you can select the set you prefer.

● “how to display list of sets”: it is the same option that we have in point 8. Settings.

● “View”: There are 4 options to display the tools. I will show you some of them:

1. Reason according to size.

2. Reason according to the columns.

3. Listed by size.

4. Listing according to the columns that is similar to the reason according to the columns.

 

● “Change order”: You can also change the order of the sets by dragging it.

● “Quick Access Setting”

 

To modify a single set: right click on the set and you can modify it. It's faster that way.

Where can you find quick access?

In case you don't have “quick access” pinned: Window → quick access.

Tip:

♡ Recommendation or tip:

● Use the most frequent tools, because on your cell phone you will have to scroll down to find the tool and this will delay your work.

● Delete the tools by pressing "right click" and "delete".

● Set: Show the quick access list to "none", will allow you to have more space and be more efficient.

 

Among the tools I use are brushes and transformation tools.

2. CIRCLE OF COLORS.

I must mention that everything we handle in remote control mode on our cell phone are the same settings and tools that we find in the main program.

We also have the (a). main color, (b). secondary color and (c). transparency. In addition, you can manage the (d.) size of the brush and the (e.) opacity of the brush.

 

3. GESTURE PANEL.

At first glance it gives us an instruction on how to handle the canvas. This option will also be your favorite because here we greatly speed up the work to move the canvas, and if you use Clip Studio Paint from your computer the shortcuts can sometimes be complicated and this panel has all the shortcuts on a single screen so you can handle it with 1 to 3 fingers.

At the bottom we have other options to change the canvas display.

1. Restore display.

2. 100%

3. Restart rotation.

4. Fit to browser.

5. Fit to screen.

6. Flip horizontal.

7. Flip vertical.

 

4. SUBVIEW PALETTE.

• You can add images by selecting the folder or camera to have use of references. It is very useful to see the range of colors that the image has. You can also perform touch gestures such as zoom and rotation.

• You can add more than one image and change them. You can even remove it.

 

• You can open the image or photograph by clicking on “open image on canvas” and the Studio Paint clip mobile program will open where you can edit with a time limit of 60 min because the Control Mode was closed.

 

Synchronize file from your cell phone.

● I take this opportunity to teach you how to synchronize the file so that you can edit it from your computer.

a. We select: export to images folder.

B. Manage works.

C. Remember that you must log in.

D. Activate the synchronization and wait for it to be uploaded to the cloud of your account.

 

E. On your computer: we are going to manage works → cloud. We press the cloud icon and when this icon is orange it means that the file has completed its download.

F. We select "To this device", which is next to "cloud". And ready! You already know how to upload traditional drawings to your computer to continue editing in Clip Studio Paint.

Tip

Let's continue: returning to the initial panel, if you can't find the color in the bar, click on the image to extract the color. The guide is a small cross.

5. MIX COLORS.

a. There is the work area that we can do the same gestures with our fingers: zoom, undo and redo.

b. It shows us a set of colors already preset.

 

 

c. In the command bar we will find the same settings that "mix color" has on our computer, from left to right:

• Delete the canvas.

• Brush size: small, medium and large.

• The brush.

• Diffuser.

• Dropper.

• The color: if we click it opens the color settings.

• Settings: here we can change the color of the canvas: nothing or transparent, white, black, gray, and beige.

 

• Settings: canvas color.

• Reset colors to their default values: it is useful when our set of colors is saturated.

Where can I find the mix color tool on the computer?

Go to: window → mix colors. You can access the settings on the 3 lines at the top left.

The difference of this mixer is the option to “use same sub tool as on the canvas, it means that the brush you are using can be applied here, for example: the smudger.

Tip

• Use it in conjunction with (4. Subview Palette), just select a color from the image and then go back to 5. Mix Colors where you can drag it to the color bar to make the mixes.

• I recommend you enlarge the canvas to occupy a small part, this will allow you to generate more mixes without having to delete the previous ones.

6. PREVIEW WEBTOON.

Here you can visualize the work you are doing. The change you make from your computer or tablet takes a little while to be seen on your cell phone, it will depend on your Internet connection. This option is very useful for visualizing your comic strips.

7. CHANGE MODE.

This option will allow you to access the functions that the tools have with the keys: "shift", "crtl", "alt".

• If you press ctr + alt, it will change the “brush size”.

• In figure tools: bezier curve, for example, a vertex is created by selecting "alt" and an angle is generated with the "shift" key. To confirm the bezier curve we crush “ctrl. Hit “crtl" and then on the line you want to modify.

• For geometric figures: ellipse, for example, crushes "upper" (shift) to maintain the aspect ratio.

• If we select on a control point, this will be the moving part.

But, by selecting this higher control point, the fixed points will be the opposite extremes.

• For any brush: first set a starting point, then press shift and a straight line is created.

• For selection tools: press first “shift” to add and then release the letter to freely modify the selection. Press “alt” to remove a selection.

When moving a selection it is done freely, but by pressing “upper” shift you can drag the image linearly without altering its position.

• For the move layer tool, the “move layer” sub tool drags the image without any modification. But if you want to have several copies of this layer, first press “alt”, then click on the image and drag it: a copy is generated.

• Performing this “keep original image” operation generated multiple copies. To join us in a single layer:

1. Select the layer.

2. Press “shift” and then click until the layer you want to select.

3. Drag the layers to the “folder” icon, and see that a folder has been generated with all these images.

4. Right click and select “merge selected layers”. Clever! We already have a nice background with a single pattern.

Another option for the selection tool is to cut the image with the "crt" key, for example, to take it to another part of the canvas.
