[Smartphone]Learn to tweak (CSP) pen & brush settings
Hi guy, I am an artist who have been drawing for a for as long as I can remember and I have been using CSP app for a while now, I will be showing the various process to easily recreate both pens & brushes settings,
Clip studio paint and celsey made this studio available on computers, tablet and android, I will be using an Android device for this illustration.
So guy, with no further Ado let's get started
Note: For future reference, I will be illustrating the setting for both pens and brushes as I go along.
Method to adjustment of the Sub tool for both pens & brushes
As we open the app and create a canvas with our choice of size, we will see by the left side of the screen there is a bar and a pen or brush icon [double tap the icon],
A dashboard displaying different pens & brushes selection.
◾[Create custom sub tool],
When we [Click and Hold on] to either the pen/brush icon, the menu with some selection options will now display.
After selecting, [selecting create sub tool] dashboard display.
•[Rename]
We can change the name of both the [Pen2] ➝ [Pen 3].
•[Change output process]
This changes the display the selected sub tool's output process cursor when they are use.
•[Change the input process]
When we Click on the [input process bar box]➝[ input process dashboard], then we select [Pen]
•[Tool icon]
This can change the [Display icon] of both the pens and brushes, so we click bar with [zoom]➝[Pen].
•[Background]
We select the [Background]➝[colour dashboard] will display, change the colour from red to blue then click on [Ok], doing that we have change the background colour of either our pens or brushes icon.
And also we can [import image] from storage (it could be our logo/portrait) by clicking ➝[1]➝[select the logo/image] then press [ok]➝[4] now we are done importing our logo .
Now we finish up by pressing [Ok], by doing that create another pen and can use this process for brush also.
◾[Sub tool settings]
The [Sub tool] settings has the same selection and changes like that of [Duplicate sub tool] but they are both different, because for the [Sub tool] settings the changes will affect the selected sub tool.
Now a display of selection will display but the [Input process] & [Output process] are already set and cannot be change here, we can only change the [Name] and [Tool icon].
◾[Duplicate sub tool]
The [Duplicate tool] settings has the same selection and changes like that of [Sub tool] but they are both different because this selected duplicate the select [sub tool].
Now, we are done and below we will see both the [pen 3] & [pen 4]
With that seen, we can move to next of this illustration
How to recreate customize pens and brushes.
At this point, People often get confuse and lost with different thought like they are so many settings to select from or what is the difference between the Edit tool
We will be using the different process [we can call "Steps"] I use when ever I am redesigning either my pens and brushes [Sub tools] And those [Steps] are [Particle Nature]>[Pressure adjustment]>[Density adjustment]>[Texture adjustment]>[Effect]>[Stabilization]>[Blend/Jitter]. So those step as our Basic Guide when ever we want to redesign any of our [Sub tool],
Also CSP app have various pens and brushes which are with different uses and as this illustration continue, we will see how they various [Steps] can help us achieve.
[Note: For future reference, I will be illustrating the setting for both pens and brushes as we go along every step]
We are going to be look at a few of them like for that of the pencil + pen.
They are use sometimes for [Sketch],
or [Lineart]
And CSP has already customized some of them for our use such as
While for that Brushes sub tools which are
They can be use for [flat painting]>[wet painting]>[shading]>[decorating]>[spraying sparkle]>[rule line]>[oil painting].
[Sub tools] settings can be reach in two ways which are the [Edit tool] & [Detail tool] properties and we can get to this two settings by using on the [command bar], it will display the [Edit sub tool] at the bottom of the canvas.
That is one way which we can get to the setting.
The other way is to use the pen/brush icon on the [Palette bar] at the left of the canvas. It will display the sub tool dashboard,
After we click on the sub tool we will like to redesign, then the [Edit sub tool] will display.
Next we press the setting icon at the left bottom side.
Lastly we press the bar at the top displaying [brush size] another dashboard will display, now they following settings that display are what we are going to use to customize both the pens and brushes [Sub tool].
Now that we know the different ways to access our settings and the different selections in the sub tools.
[also note that the all what is shown above works for both the pens and brushes]
We can now introduce our Steps.
Step (i) Particle Nature
This part of the step helps focus our attention on the material shape, form and pattern which we want the pens and brushes to be redesign into. And we can achieve it by knowing
◾ How to make use of already made materials.
CSP app has different varieties of sub tools which are pens & brushes that are useful but sometimes we will like some of our Sub tool[pen & brush] to have specific pattern like texture effect, spraying effect, acrylic effect and some many more. So how can one achieve those? Begs the question.
For one, We can redesign CSP already made sub tool materials to our own specific pattern and to do this we select the kind of Sub tool[pen & brush] we will like to redesign and open the [detail sub tool], click the bar on top.
Select>[brush tip] and a dashboard will appear with different options the we need to understand to be able to redesign the sub tool.
[Hardness] selection changes the boldness and blurriness of our Sub tools.
[Thickness] selection changes the thickness and thinnest of our Sub tools.
[Direction] selection changes the angle and position of the material.
They are two types of particle positioning namely [Horizontal direction] and [Vertical direction]
And some others that we will get to know in the below steps.
At the top of the brush tip dashboard, we should see the tip brush selection having to option [circle] and [material].
Click> [material]>[select brush tip shape] dashboard will display, we select the shape we want to use then click ok.
We will be send back to the brush tip dashboard and the selected shape will be display on top. Click>[close] and we will be take back to the [edit sub tool properties] where we will see the display of the selected shape onto the sub tool.
Let's examine with some shapes.
The redesign the shape of a sub tool, we must have a new choice of shape material to use.
And Which ones can best suit pens or brushes, using the above step for both of the [sub tool].
For pen
For brush
◾How to create a new material.
This aspect we are to introduce a new material when we are to select a shape material for our Sub tool. So what we need to consider firstly is how to create a new shape for our material folder and how we can achieve that is by creating a canvas size [1000 × 1000px] a perfect square canvas.
Now we only need one layer, draw a [leaf] with a black color in order for the system to give the brush a thick expression when use.
After draw, below the canvas on the palette bar by the left there is an shortcut icon, click on the [Quick access icon]>[dashboard] will display with different selection, there are two ways to creating shape material which are [register image material] and [register layer as template material].
The [register image material] is the one we will be working with because that one register the shape on the shape material and it can be use for making sub tool but that of the [register layer as template material] register the shape in the template folder and can only be use as a template material.
Select>[ register image material].
A [material property] dashboard will display with more selection,
Here we can change the name to [*Leaf] and select [use as brush tip shape]
We should not think that it is finished because if we click on [ok] this will be display,
This is only informing us to select the folder where we want the material to be place.
So we should click [ok], scroll down and select a [download] folder and then click on [ok].
With that, we have create a new shape material and we can find it in the [details sub tool]>[brush tip]>[tip shape]>[material] we will find our created shape material [*Leaf] on top of the material dashboard, select it and click [ok] it will take us back to the brush tip dashboard with the created shape on top as the added material then we click on [close].
By doing that we have use our created shape to form a new shape brush now we can use the created shape sub tool.
We can use the above for the setting of both our pens and brushes.
Below are some examples for that of pens
And this are some examples for that of brush
That is one aspect of create new sub tool. The other way is to create a new [1000 × 1000px], draw a Leaf use a gray as the base colour and the black as the boundary colour of the Leaf.
Now we click on>[Layer property] at the left side of the palette bar. A dashboard will display with some selection,
Now click on [expression color bar] and change the selection from [color] to [gray].
After doing that, we just need to follow this process as we did before by clicking>[shortcut icon]>[register image material]>[change name to *Leaf and select use as brush tip shape]>[choose a download folder]>[then click on ok].
We can now go to the [details sub tool] but before selecting the created material from the [brush tip], we need to
◾ Set the brush shape preset.
This aspect help change the brush shape for the current sub tool and they are some few selection.
For this part all we need is to change the brush shape from pen to star because star sub tool has already been set to has space between the material.
Then we click on [apply brush shape]
With that we are done and we move on to the [brush tip]>[tip shape]>[material] and set the created material to our Sub tool.
After doing that, when we are to change the color, we should bear in mind that the color swap at the top of the [edit bar] play an important role for this kind of Sub tool because this sub tool now have a [boundary line and fill] with [fill plane] and can be affected by the color swap.
Those are they various ways we can create material and use them for our Sub tool in CSP app. And this ways are often use as decoration brushes [sub tool], but their is no harm trying it for pen.
So let's moving on,
◾How to set sub tool outline.
The outline of our Sub tool can be set by the use anti-aliasing effect to make the outline of our Sub tool either smooth or tilted. There are some few settings
When we want our Sub tool [either pens or brushes] to have [tilted] edges select the [None anti-aliasing].
If we want the sub tool to have [a tilted/very pixelated] edges, select the [None anti-aliasing].
If we want the sub tool to have [a hard] edges, select the [weak anti-aliasing].
Or If we want the sub tool to have [a slitly blurry] edges, select the [medium anti-aliasing].
Then lastly, If we want the sub tool to have [a very blurry] edges, select the [strong anti-aliasing].
◾How to set the sub tool stroke.
This setting have various selection the will help us in changing of the amount of gap to give the sub tool, the draw order and the overlaying control.
For we to set material spacing, we go the [details sub tool] select>[stroke], click on [Gap] and some selection will be display.
We can choose [fix] and adjust the Gap bar.
We can also pick [wide], but we will not be able to access the Gap bar.
We can also pick [Normal], but we will not be able to access the Gap bar either.
We can also pick [Narrow].
Next, we can now either on/off the continuous spraying.
We can also now to select the correct velocity input.
We can also now to select ribbon to set an even gap between brush tip/material.
They are also selection that help set the order of our Sub tools like for that of [Repeat] which allows the brush tip shape to be repeated per one stroke.
There is another selection which [Reverse] which allows the brush tip shape to be use reversely per one stroke.
Also let's not forget the selection, [Do not repeat] which allows the brush tip shape to be use without repeating per one stroke.
Next, we look at the selection, [Random] which randomize the brush tip shape per one stroke.
Following that is another selection [one time only] which allows the brush tip shape to be use one time only per one stroke.
And after that is another selection [one random cycle] which allows the brush tip shape to be use one randomize cycle per one stroke.
◾Blend brush tip with darken.
This selection when enable darkest color will be use for the brush tip/material per one stroke. The darken color is similar to the darken of the blending mode.
Step (ii) Brush shape
This aspect help focus our attention on the setting of pressure. We can set it by getting to the detail sub tool dashboard and select>[brush size] and click on the arrow by the right pointing downward, a new dashboard will be displayed with other selection.
Step (iii) Density.
Density is all about how light or thick we want the sub tool stroke to be so we can set it by using the [ink] and select the arrow by the right of the opacity in the detail sub tool. Following the same process as that of brush size will be able to set the opacity.
Step (iv) Texture Effect.
When we press Texture bar and select a texture for our Sub tool It will make the sub tool to have the texture effect.
After selecting texture and press, we have set the texture to our Sub tool. Now we can make use of it but for the texture to show very well we should reduce the opacity and the more we reduce it will show the more.
Note that the opacity of the below strokes is as follows 30%>50%>70% & lastly 100%.
Step (vii) Stabilization
How can we straighten/draw clean lines of our Sub tool? Maybe the questions ask. We can make use of the [correction] selection to straighten the line of our stroke.
Depends on how the pressure was applied and fastness the Stabilization adjust
When we have set this part, if we set it to be high the strokes will be slow and straight but if set low it will go fast be hardly straight.
Conclusion
Thanks for sticking till the end, I will be looking forward to seeing more of you. Bye
