Until recently I didn't open Clip studio paint to paint

It turned out to be a great painting!

In fact, it is very useful!

Just recently Clip studio tips will have some themes

I will use Clip studio paint to do a small tutorial!

Let's use just one trick - layer mode!

It takes only three minutes to draw a variety of light and shadow effects!

 

For those who find light and shadow difficult to draw, or hand-painted

This electric drawing function is really a great gospel

In addition, this painting method is actually not complicated, super simple

There is no need to do any complicated coloring and drawing light and shadow

At the beginning, you can simply draw a character

Then simply paint his inherent color

Simple demonstration of three different light and shadow effects with the trick of layer mode

So let's take a quick look

How do we use this trick to draw various light and shadow effects!

 

1. Backlight and shadow

First of all, let's open a layer first, this layer is what we want to draw shadows on, so we first change the layer mode of this layer to [color enhancement], and then choose the shadow color we want, here I choose low saturation Blue instead of gray because it doesn't make the shadows look too dark. Then, just use the paint bucket to cover the entire layer with color!

Then click on the effect of "Crop with the next layer" (the color of the shadow will only appear in the place where the character layer appears below) and "Create a layer mask" (so that we can modify the erased place at any time) on this shadow layer.

Then we can start to erase the shadows around the characters with an eraser. Here I use a relatively blurred brush to roughly erase the shadows around the characters, and then use a sharper brush to make a little detail. In fact, after wiping it like this, there will be a little backlight feeling!

Note: Remember to click on the white mask on the right side of the shadow layer when erasing! It is the shadow itself that will not be accidentally rubbed, and it is not easy to modify it later.

 

Then we add another layer, this layer is to draw the backlight halo around the characters, so the layer mode is set to [real light], select the color of the light we want to draw as a warmer yellow, and then select the brush tool, Use a blurred brush to draw some halos around the characters, and the backlight and shadow are done!

2. Dichotomous light and shadow

First, we open a new layer under the layer of the character, then select the color of the shadow, and then use the paint bucket + brush tool to draw the background shadow we want to draw. Here I use the two-point method to draw the shadow effect, because the two-point shadow It's really a simple, rough and beautiful light and shadow painting method!

Then we add another shadow layer above the character layer. This shadow layer is mainly the shadow on the character, so we also select [Color Addition], and click on the layer effect of "Cut with the next layer", and then use it directly on the character. Paint buckets for coloring.

Then we use the eraser to erase the shadows of the place under the whole figure illuminated by the light, leaving only the shadows under the nose and chin.

It would be too monotonous if the entire shadow is erased, so here I am using the brush tool and choose a sharper brush to simply paint a little shadow on the clothes and hands.

In order to make the eyes of the characters sharper, I used an eraser to simply draw a little reflection of light on the eyes of the characters to make the eyes of the characters look more energetic.

Then under the background shadow, open a new layer, choose a warmer yellow color, and fill the layer directly with the paint bucket.

Because I want to make the color and atmosphere here a little warmer, and even make a little contrast with the blue of the shadow, I choose a pinker color, use the brush tool, and choose a blurred brush on the same layer Paint it a little pink.

In addition to the pink background, the characters will definitely be affected by the sunlight, so I added a new layer to the top layer, selected the layer mode of [Solid Light], lowered the opacity, and used the brush and color just now, Simply apply directly on the subject.

Because I want this pink ambient light to affect only the characters, I turn on the layer effect of "Cut with the next layer" again for this layer, and adjust the opacity again to make the picture more natural.

Next, I hope that the reflection of the eyes can be highlighted a little more, so I add another layer on the top layer, use the [Overlay] layer mode, select a yellowish color, and use a blurred brush in the brush tool to lightly Paint on the reflection of the eyes, but I think it's a bit too abrupt at this point!

So in the end I changed the layer mode to [Soft Light] and adjusted the desaturation to 50, it feels more natural! Then this two-point light and shadow painting method is complete!

3. Light and shadow between doors

At the very beginning, we added a shadow layer above the character layer, selected [Color Addition], selected the shadow color we want to use, and filled it directly with the paint bucket.

Then copy this shadow layer and place it on top of the character layer, and click on the layer effects of "Cut with Next Layer" and "Create Layer Mask". Remember to click on the white mask on the right side of this layer.

At this time, we use the eraser to directly draw the part of the door slit light on this mask, and then use the brush tool to draw shadows on the parts that may appear shadows within the range of the door slit light.

Next, we create a new layer on the top, select [Real Light], click on the effect of "Cut with Next Layer", and reduce the opacity to about 40, select the light color we want, and then use the brush tool , select the blur brush, and draw a little halo around the crack of the door, but at first I thought the halo was a little too big, not very natural, so I used an eraser to do a little bit of modification later.

Then, after the overall drawing was almost done, I felt that the background was not dark enough, so I chose a darker gray-blue color, and directly filled the background layer with a paint bucket to make the contrast between light and dark stronger.

At this time, I made an old mistake again, always wanting to add a little detail XD So I first hide the halo layer, above the character layer, in the mask of the shadow layer, I use a brush to illuminate the block of the character, Increase the shadows under the eyebrows and hair of the character.

Then use the eraser to wipe the eyes of the characters in the shadow with a little reflection, which is also used to make the eyes of the characters look more energetic.

Finally, I added another layer at the top of the layer, selected white, used the brush tool, and used a sharper brush to draw a little eye reflection on the eye that is illuminated by the crack of the door.

Turn on the halo layer of the crack light, and you're done!
