I'm sure there are many people who bought CLIP STUDIO PAINT 3.0.0, but were disappointed when they loaded a wonderful character VRM file exported from VRoid into CLIP STUDIO PAINT because it was so slow.

However, it is possible to make it much lighter.

This is a temporary method, so to speak, until one day CLIP STUDIO PAINT will be updated or upgraded so that VRM will be lighter without any effort.

[1] Why is it so slow when loading VRM?

At the time of writing this article, CLIP STUDIO PAINT is currently at version 3.0.0, and it still appears that processing tends to become slower when transparency is mixed into 3D textures.

The slower it becomes if the number of objects increases.

I don't know the details, but I suspect that this is probably because VRoid makes extensive use of transparent textures.

[2] VRM export settings in VRoid

Assemble your avatar as you like and export the VRM.

I haven't tested it in detail, but I tried the following settings for now.

  • Reduce polygons Check ☑ Delete transparent meshes.

  • Reduce materials Set the number of materials to 2.

No other adjustments were made.

The VRM version this time was tried at 1.0.

0.0 is also fine.

[3] CLIP STUDIO PAINT preferences

  • Open the "File" menu > "Preferences" > "3D".

  • Set "Drawing settings" > "Opacity of textures considered translucent" to "0".

  • Press "OK" and restart CLIP STUDIO PAINT.

What do you think? I hope this setting will make things easier.

[4] The opacity of a texture that is considered semi-transparent

There is a FAQ about "texture opacity considered semi-transparent".

https://support.clip-studio.com/ja-jp/faq/articles/20220044

It says "We recommend leaving it at the default value of 90."

As it says in the FAQ, "There is a possibility that objects in the background may no longer be transparent, causing rendering to be distorted."

It is possible that texture abnormalities may occur when using 3D content other than VRM, so if this occurs, please return it to the default value of "90".
