“Finally finished drawing the character~! Now I have to draw the background!!

—But I put all my effort into the character, and now I have no energy left to draw the background…”

For illustrators like you, we recommend “Cracked Glass Backgrounds”!!

For those who think, “Cracked glass backgrounds are too high in drawing effort!! How many hours will it take to draw it now!?”

By using 3D cracked glass materials, you can create a realistic-looking background in a short amount of time!

3D Materials to Use

The material to be used is the 7th installment of my “Destruction Series”

[3D Cracked Glass Effect]

  • There are 30 stages of cracking, which can be selected from the layout presets. D0 (intact) → D30 (scattered)

  • Each glass fragment is independent and can be finely adjusted to your preferred arrangement

  • You can switch between opaque and transparent with material presets

  • By exporting each stage of glass as an image and combining them, you can create cracked glass animations like the GIF above

By using this material, you can create a realistic-looking cracked glass background in a short time.

Example 1: Background with Radially Flying Glass

This is a method to create a background where glass fragments appear to fly out radially by applying perspective.

<Settings>

Switch to layout preset D5

→ Apply strong perspective (rotate mouse wheel)

→ Change layer mode to glowing, add a tonal correction layer, and change hue to purplish

Example 2: Realistic Cracked Glass Background

This method involves changing the cracked glass to transparent and adjusting the tone to make it more realistic.

Select any cracking degree from the layout presets

→ Change to “clear” in the material presets (rasterization is recommended as it may become heavy depending on PC/tablet specs)

→ Clip multiply or burn layers and glowing layers to create a contrast in brightness and darkness for a glass-like feel

Example 3: Cracking Ground

This is a method to create an effect when a strong enemy emerges from underground.

<Settings>

Switch to layout preset D4

→ Change layer mode to subtract

→ Select individual glass fragments and move them to desired locations so that the character's figure is visible.

Example 4: Impact! Effect for Manga

This is a method to create an effect often seen in manga productions when a character experiences an impact.

<Settings>

Switch to layout preset D4

→ Clip with a white layer
