Mysterious Poster-Style Illustration with Flowers and Planets in the Background
“If my own character were to be made into a movie, what kind of story would it be? What would the title be?”
With that in mind, I created this artwork with the themes of 'space' and 'life', imagining a movie poster or book pamphlet.
Title: Gliese 710 Descent with modification
Story: It's the story of a man and a woman who travel to Gliese 710, a star approaching the solar system, with Charles Darwin's 'Coevolution of Life' as the central theme...
<About the Text>
I hand-designed the text to mimic the unique font style of Alphonse Mucha, the painter known for 'Flowers and Designs'.
<About the Hair>
As you can see in the making-of video, I went through a lot of trial and error to draw the flowing green hair.... I wanted to achieve a fluffy look, but it wasn't easy, so I redrew it many times.
For the coloring, I kept the light source in mind, making the center as bright as possible and the surrounding areas dark.
<About the Background>
All the flowers and planets in the background were created by me.
I processed flowers photographed during fieldwork into an illustration style, and for the planets, I photographed the marble patterns created when mixing milk into coffee, then modeled them into 3D planets... that's how they were created.
However, although I incorporated various flowers and planets into the background, half-hearted processing made it quite cluttered, so I boldly reduced the brightness, saturation, and opacity to make the girl in the center
stand out.
