Draw plants with default brushes
Prologue
Creating arts digitally is fast and really convenient.
However, sometimes, they look quite stiff or we usually call [too digital].
Actually, the key for making digital works look like traditional ones is variety of textures during illustration process.
No wasting times to search new brushes, Clip Studio Paint already has a storage of textured brushes to help us create nice arts.
Video process
Default stuffs
Default stuffs are included in the app. There is no need to download or search new ones.
When click on the [PEN] icon
We have 3 tabs here which are Pen / Marker / Gpen.
Each tab contains few pens and some of them are textured.
We could use them as pencil/ crayon patterns like traditional arts.
Moreover, [BRUSH] icon here also has a lot more.
We also have 3 tabs for brushes, which are Watercolor / Thick paint / India ink
Almost them are textured which help us blend color especially on the edges, so that the art will look soft and natural.
Sketch
Try to composite all ideas here, no details.
You could use any pen/brush to sketch as long as you get familiar with.
I set [STABILIZATION] at medium to make my sketch as loose as possible
Line
Here is the first step to add textures on the illustration.
I use [ROUGH PEN] to line my art.
I also set [STABILIZATION] at medium to make loose lines.
Simple ways to draw plants
I have 2 simple ways to draw any plants
First of all, I change their states.
It means I made them close or open their petals.
Second thing is I change their shapes.
I draw their petals, their leaves round or pointed.
I draw with/without details.
I start to draw over the sketch with various plants.
Simplify the shapes, combine them…
Even it is not realistic but I wanna make them like hand- drawing art, so I draw them from my memories and imagination.
You could use references as you want for accuracy.
Here are my works
Color base
As usual, I use tool for quick color.
You could use textured brushes to color as you want at this step.
Fulfill the illustration with colors you like.
You could download the tool here.

Try out all of brushes to blend color edges, not only make them softer but also adding more interesting patterns on the illustration.
Turn off the [LINE] layer to see the effect clearly.
Then turn it on to make sure colors are in right places.
Color lines
This step will make the illustration more appealing.
Click and hold for seconds to show this list.
Then choose [LOCK TRANSPARENT PIXELS]
You will see the Lock symbol next to Layer name.
Lock the [LINE] layer so that color won't spread out during changing color.
Here are the rules
Choose bright color for lines in dark areas.
Choose darker tones for lines in the light ranges.
Final touches
Finally, using any textured brushes to present material patterns (glass, wood, …)
Also adding some dark ranges for variety of depth.
