INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone this is Nightshade from BM7Creations. And today we going to go over making clothes with watercolors.

PAPER

Use the sand image material available in the default.

Change the layer to “Overlay” and adjust the opacity as desired.

I keep my layer to 100% for the maximum quality effect.

LINE AND/OR NO LINE

When using watercolors it is optional to use line art, as the line art can emphasize the painting, illustration, comic, or animation. No line art can have a more soft effect

I start the line art by using a Rectangle figure ruler.

Using the ruler I trace the sketches of the illustration.

BRUSHES

I choose the brushes for this illustration.

 

 

The watercolor splash I use the most, and can be used to make patterns on garments, and backgrounds.

Soft bleed if a fluffy brush, I mainly use for hair and shadows.

Rough wash for shoes.

And my custom pen Mr. Rain Plane, which creates a duplicate soft round splotch of watercolor.

Round watercolor brush for fabric and hair.

Wet wash watercolor brush for skin.

USING THE WATERCOLOR BRUSHES

With watercolors the trick is the pen pressure, the lighter you press the light the color comes out.

I paint the entire shape of the character’s bodice, unafraid to paint outside the lines knowing it is completely digital.

By drawing over the watercolor-painted space I create a shadow.

I use the Polyline lasso tool and deleting inside of the selected area I erase the excessive watercolor.

I lightly paint the skin of the character with the Wet wash paint brush, purposely darkening the eye areas for eye shadow.

FINISHING TOUCHES

I use the Wet wash watercolor brush on the hair, creating a similar shadow effect as the clothes.

I use the Watercolor splash to create a background.

I remove the Watercolor background behind the characters to brighten the scene.

And the soft eraser tool.
