brief introduction

1.Pop style analysis & operation demonstration

2. Applying Pupp elements to illustration design

For the characteristics of the popular style, draw and explain with the example of the surface, familiar with the expression, according to the theme of the content, composition, color, light, screen, etc., progressively draw illustrations with popular style.

Pop style analysis & operation demonstration

Note: The following canvas sizes are A4, 210mmX297mm, 300dpi.

In addition, you need to divide into different layers when drawing, so that you can change the color later.

Shape

The popular style is characterized by a sharp outline. If you want to draw, the edges are clear, and it is better to recognize the image from the silhouette.

2. Color

The contrasting, high-saturated color is also one of the characteristics of the popular style. If the color is too dark, it will not be able to make a clear contrast effect, which is not conducive to the appearance of the popular style.

Bright colors and high saturation give a clear and clear impression.

The color is dark and the saturation is low, which gives the impression of turbidity.

When it is not clear whether the selected color saturation is high or low, refer to the HSV data (H/S/V, Hue/Saturation/Lightness).

The following are the same colors, and the conditions of saturation, brightness, saturation & lightness are adjusted separately.

(1) The saturation increases and the color density becomes high.

(2) The brightness increases and the color becomes brighter.

(3) The saturation and brightness increase at the same time, and the color becomes bright and bright.

3. Dot effect

CSP has a built-in dot effect, which can be adjusted according to the needs of individual needs.

Number of dot lines>60

Concentration>Use image brightness

Network Settings > Circle

The dots are very thin and almost no dot effect is seen.

After the number of dots is lowered, the texture particles become noticeable.

Select a layer color to change the dot to the specified color.

Built-in outlets sometimes can't find the pattern they want to use. In this case, you can use a brush or decorative effect as a dot, and there are also many free clips and brushes available for download in ASSETS.

Select the brush material you want to use

>[Create new layer] > [Use the next layer to trim]

In this way, the pattern can be drawn while retaining the shape.

[Cut with the next layer] This function is very useful, so you can use it more (・∀・)

Used separately here

(1) dot brush: CSP built-in, [grid line, sand] in the auxiliary tool - grid line 4

(2) Pattern decoration: hand-painted の の and decoration collection, thanks to 27pt exquisite material (・∀・)

4. Color change

To change the color of an image, you can choose to change the color of the part or the whole.

Change part of the color: select the part to be changed

[edit] >[Change the color of the line to the paint color]

(Note: the donuts and background here are drawn separately)

Change the color of the overall surface: [Layer] > [New Tone Compensation Layer] > [Stepwise Correspondence]

Gradual correspondence can quickly try to combine different colors,

Different color combinations give different impressions, and you can change the color combination depending on the impression you want to present.

5. Repeating elements

A lot of the same elements are often repeated in the popular style, and it is quite easy to use a computer.

To repeat the elements, just copy them all the time.

After selecting, [CTRL+C], [CTRL+V], scale or type as needed.

Different typesetting combinations, staggered or linear.

A lot of repetitions with a bit of change, is also a common way of application of Pop Art

(For example, a different flavor of donut or a different color background appears in the repeat).

If one of the large numbers of the same color is different, it will produce contrast and look particularly conspicuous.

Changing the size of the image is also a kind of contrast, and the different layout sizes will change the overall impression. You can try different possibilities.

6. Layout

Comic-like typography is also one of the characteristics of Pop style. Since the original text is in English, the line of sight reading order is usually from top to bottom.

The horizontal and vertical layout gives a calm, calm impression.

The sloping layout will have an unstable, lively impression.

The donuts in the grid feel calmer and calmer, while the doughnuts beyond the frame look particularly lively and conspicuous.

7. Combination and application

Three different example references were made using the elements mentioned above in combination with the above mentioned elements.

The donuts are copied, but the arrangement has been changed, and the color ratio is slightly different.

You can refer to the examples and feel the changes in the atmosphere caused by different colors and layouts (・∀・)

You can also think about the theme you want to make, change the color scheme, typesetting, and create a picture that fits the ideal.

Applying Pupp elements to illustration design

I personally think that if you want to draw illustrations with a lot of repeating elements, it will be more interesting if you have a clear theme. So think about the summer temples and draw illustrations that use the style of Pop style.

1. thought / composition

The background uses comic-like typography, from top to bottom, because the theme is the summer temple fair, so the use of fireworks, masks and water polo, and these elements can be arranged into a circle, the same elements can be repeated after a large number of With a holistic effect.

(The goldfish was originally considered, but the shape is irregular, and it is not easy to organize into a round shape. After changing to a water polo, the color can be more varied and varied.)

In addition, it is intended to repeat the elements of the background use on the characters to enhance the impression of the popular style.

(The costume of the firework pattern, the mask on the head, and the water polo on the hand.)

2. Color matching

Since the color matching will affect the overall picture, I personally tend to pre-empt the proportion of each color in the picture.

Then draw the line draft.

When you are unsure of the color, you can first establish the main color (the desired impression color), and then match the color of the lining

The initial idea is a blue kimono, night background, but I hope to have a more stable feeling, so I am obeying the water blue to dark blue, in order to highlight the feeling of the night, the bow is changed to bright yellow, contrast with the dark background, performance The overall stability has a bright feeling.

To reinforce the feeling of the night, change the middle block to yellow to create the impression of a street vendor glowing at night.

After the overall primary color is determined, the elements (sparkler, mask, water polo) are then configured to configure the characters and the background without interference. Since the background and the bow are both yellow, it is easy to mix the background with the characters when watching. It is decided to change the bow to red, and the overall picture will be more conspicuous.

3. Line draft

After deciding on the overall configuration, the line draft is then organized to determine the segmentation of the character's movements and background.

Pay attention to the flow of vision, and configure the screen with the premise that the characters and the background do not interfere with each other.

After the character movement and the position of the object are roughly determined, you can start to draw the official line and background.

4. Background color

After the line draft is completed, the background color is drawn, starting with the background color of the character.

Set the line drawing layer to [Reference Layer] and fill the background color with > [Auto Select] > [Fill].

(Because the character outline is complex, it is relatively easy to select the background)

If there is a gap in the line draft, it is better to open [Closed Gap].

Turn off the line layer, select the white part of the picture, create a new layer, and fill it with a paint bucket.

In this way, you can get a complete silhouette layer.

Use the silhouette as a basemap, create a new layer, and use [Use the next layer of clipping] to paint in the range of the silhouette.

This is how to look at the characters and costumes.

(Note: need to be layered)

After creating a new layer and coloring the background, the background phase is complete.

5. Light and shadow

Since the light source is set as a street vendor at night, I want to create a light sensation where the light is illuminated from the front and the shadow falls behind the person.

Copy the silhouette layer you just drew and change the background color to orange-red.

Create a new layer, then use the selection tool to color the part that will produce the shadow.

(Because I want to keep the overall feeling and the sense of flow, the shadows are not very thin, but the color of the large faces.)

After coloring, you can get two layers of light (orange layer) and shadow (blue layer).

This is the state of the background plus.

6. Network

Change the blend mode of the orange-red layer to >[Solar Light] >[Opacity] >[75%] to get the effect that the character is illuminated by the faint orange light.

Then make a dot and change the shadow (blue layer) you just made into a dot effect.

Wipe a small portion of the shadow to highlight the mask on the head.

The following provides reference settings for outlets.

Number of dot lines>13

Concentration>Use image brightness

Network settings > cross

Layer color > dark red (refer to the red box)

You can adjust and change depending on the size of the drawing, the effect you want to present, and so on.

7. Background and decoration

After uniformly drawing the background color of the background objects (fireworks, masks, water polo), you can also use the [Use the next layer of clipping] to draw a second layer of colors and dots without exceeding the basemap.

Since the background looks a bit monotonous, the dot brush is used to add texture.

The pyrotechnic decoration on the garment directly replicates the background of the fireworks, using the mesh deformation to make the shape more suitable for the clothes, and the texture of the water wave uses the brush in the "Hand Painted and Decorative Collection" mentioned earlier.

It is completed here, the above is the teaching of this time, thank you for reading (・∀・)
