Hello everyone, here is a tutorial to teach you how to make different skies.

For this tutorial, I decided to use sea animals and carp representing different skies.

Set of gradients

I use the "set of gradients" tool as a base for the sky.

You can download the different gradients from Clip Studio Assets.

But you can also create them yourself.

I know two ways to do it.

The first method consists of:

1: Take the pen G - make horizontal bands with a color gradient

2: Go to Filters - Blur - Gaussian blur and repeat the maneuver three times.

3: then, I use the "mixer", tool present in your CSP to smooth my gradient.

The second option is:

A: Go to the "gradient" tool, take a gradient already present in the software or which you have previously downloaded on the Clip Studio Assets

B: In the chromatic disk, choose your color - Click on the small square present in "properties of the gradient tool" - your color will change according to the main color you have taken.

C: Do the same with the other squares.

D: You have your own color gradient and you can change the color scales on the little wrench.

Stormy Sky

Here is my technique for making lightning and stormy skies.

To colorize a stormy sky, we need different colors. Here is the color palette that I mainly use for this kind of sky, the second line is for lightning and lightning.

Lightning can take on different colors (white, turquoise, red and their gradations).

You can make the clouds yourself with different brushes or download them from Clip Studio Assets.

Here are the different brushes used in this tutorial.

A: I started by making a gray square on which I used the cloud brushes with shades ranging from light gray to black. I also used the "mixer" on top to soften them.

B: On a new layer, I drew zigzags with the "G pen" tool, to make it more realistic made different thicknesses. I then put my layer in "Brightness density" mode and I added a "Gaussian blur" (filter - blur - Gaussian blur)

C: On a new layer in glow density mode, I used red and the "Soft Airbrush" to put some red light around the flashes. ( with parsimony )

D: I started the operation again on a new slap with pink and red in "overlay" mode.

E: I redrawn my lightning with red and light pink on a new layer in "Density glow" mode.

Blue sky

Colorizing a blue sky is very easy.

As for the stormy sky here is the color palette used.

A: I used the "Daytime sky" gradient.

B: I used different cloud brushes with white and a light gray.

carpe koi

Now that we figured out how to make a stormy and clear sky, I wanted to apply these tips on a carp design to represent yīn and Yang.

A: I make a sketch to put my idea

B: I line my sketch

C: I am working on the background of my illustration (under the line layer).

D: I put my two gradients on the two fish. (above the background layer and below the line layer)

E: I use my Cloud brushes.

F: I put my thunderbolt and I put light on the fins.

G: I continue to put my lights for lightning on an "incrustration" layer.

H: I color the eyes and on a layer in product mode, I put some shadows on my fish to give them volume.

I: I add a layer above the line as a "clipping mask" and I color the line.

J: I add a white border around the fish.

My illustration is finished.

Galaxy

As with stormy skies, there are a lot of materials to download from Clip Studio Assets to make a galaxy.

For this tutorial, I decided to use the materials already present on clip studio paint to make my own galaxy.

Here are the shades of colors that I used.

And a few more materials that you can download from Clip studio Assets

A: I make a blue square.

B: I put black in some places with the airbrush.

C: Still with the airbrush, I add a little green and pink.

D: On a new layer, I use the "droplet" airbrush with pink, turquoise and gray to make the stars and put my layer in "Glow Density" mode.

E: I put my stars with a filter - Blur - Gaussian blur

F: I start the maneuver again on a new layer in "Sparkle density" mode and this time, I do not put a filter.

G: With the "hard airbrush", I make turquoise light spots to make stars closer as well as a shooting star.

With the soft airbrush, I add a little black in some places.

H: I use "fibrous watercolor" to add texture to my black.

I .: In edition - tint correction - brightness and contrast - I increase the contrast of my illustration a little (don't forget to flatten the image to have your work on a single layer.)

Your starry sky is over.

Whale

Now that we have figured out how to make a starry sky, we can colorize this whale by making a galaxy on its back.

A: Sketch

B: Line

C: 2 solid colors on a separate layer

D: Soft airbrush with blue and pink

E: Gray shadow on a layer in product mode

F: "Goutelettes" airbrush with pink and blue on a layer in "shine density" mode.

G: "Soft airbrush", white in "density shine or add (shine)" mode

H: Airbrush with green and pink on a layer in "shine density" mode

I: white on the whale's belly + use the "blender" to soften the line.

J: New layer in "product" mode with gray and the use of the Airbrush.

K: "Soft airbrush" with orange.

L: New layer in product mode - details on the belly of the whale.

Sunset

For this tutorial, I decided to create some clouds myself with studio Paint clip tools.

I will not use the cloud brushes but several brushes provided and created by Clip Studio paint.

Here is the color palette I used for my sunset.

And here are all the tools that I will be using in this tutorial.

1: Create a secondary gradient with these colors.

2: Use the "Scramble by Fibers" mixer to give texture to your sky.

3: New layer in "brightness density" mode, take "Hard Airbrush" and make an orange circle in the center of the illustration

4: New layer, use the "Feather G", make a smaller circle in the center of the previous one and put your layer in "add (shine)" mode

5: Use the brush above in gray

6: Take the "Realistic G pen" and the brush below and draw your clouds in gray and black

7: Use the "fiber scramble" mixer on top of your clouds to give them their texture.

8: On a new layer repeat the maneuver with red and purple.

9: To make the sun's rays - Use a special ruler - focal curve - place your focal curve on the sun - with "Soft Airbrush" on a layer in "shine density" mode make your sunrays.

10: I used the "Fir Forest" material, I changed the size of some trees, I put some higher and others lower, I colored my layer in dark brown and then I I used Filter- Blur- Gaussian Blur

11: I used the same material again but this time I kept it clean. So we have an impression of a different plan.

12: On a layer in product mode, I darken the top of my illustration with blue.

13: On a layer in "brightness density" mode, I use the "Droplet airbrush" and I make stars with blue and a little white

14: With "Soft Airbrush" I put some orange areas and then I lower the opacity of the layer to soften my image.

Sunset ray

Here is my sunset ray.

A: Sketch

B: Line

C: sunset gradient with blue

D: Round with "soft airbrush" on a "shine density" layer

E: Clouds

F: Red and purple clouds.

G: stars on a "shine density" layer with "droplets airbrush"

H: gray shadows on a layer in "product mode" + colorization of the line on a "clipping mask"

I finish by putting a white border around the line and making a square with a gradient from red to blue for the background.

Thank you for following this tutorial, I hope it has taught you something.

Have a good day / evening.
