SanjuroNagala

Hii, I'm Sanjay and Welcome to my Lineart and Inking tips. I'm a beginner like most so there's no need to have that feeling you have when seeing another art. Without any delay let's jump to the Tutorial

NOTE: I'll be focusing more on INKING tips than on LINEART. As LineArt varies for each individual

First - Tips on Line art!!

Let's get an Idea! LineArt is the 3rd stage of the drawing process... For me at least😅😅

First - You make a rough sketch

Second - Over the rough sketch you make a clear one to knock off all the crossover line

Third - is your LineArt

As for the Tips for improving is done in a Two Way Method

  • Technical

  • Mechanical

The Technical Method

For digital artist, It's been a long pain for smooth lines..

However, One can always try adjust the pen pressure for his or liking as shown below

Disclaimer: Mine is VeiKK drawing table

Even after adjusting the pen pressure for your tablet doesn't give satisfying result?

Try This then

Adjust your pen pressure settings in your drawing software(s) directly..

Mine is Clip Studio Paint EX. NOTE : CSP users must open a canvas to be able to access the pen pressure setting because you have to test your pen on a canvas right?

This my own adjustment for my left-hand comfort

QUICK TIP - YOU CAN ADJUST THE PEN PRESSURE OF YOUR BRUSHES INDIVIDUALLY

IN THE TOOL PROPERTY THERE ARE SMALL CONCENTRIC SQUARES CLICK THAT TO FIND A MENU LIKE THIS

For tablets compatible with tilt can adjust that too..

Feel free to experiment...

Though it's time consuming🙃🙃

However, You can always use the continuous curve tool get the cleanest LineArt and Use a Vector Layer to generate line weight differences..

NOTE: LINE WEIGHT ADDS SENSE TO DIRECTION OF LIGHT

THE MECHANICAL METHOD

I'm about to ROFL but this is a very effective method than the technical coz...

In the method you diligently practice the basic shapes of drawing everyday till you finally perfect your lineArt,..

YEAH, Good Luck with that...

if that's over let's move to inking

My personal FAVORITE

INKING

This is the 4 step in the process after lineArt. Traditional inking is done with various pens. However, for digital artist they can easily simulate these by brushes and pens provided by their programs by default.

Also, you can create your own custom brushes too to suit your own liking.

This is an Image I finished inking for the tutorial I did it in my own style though

There aren't many variant values for the color however, I did vary the line weight very light to area highlighting the light.

There are even more elements that I didn't involve in the image which a artist could use in his or her drawing.

Those are some basic texture patterns that are commonly used

These are the basic inking guidelines I'll explain each one individually now.

Straight Hatching lines

Straight hatching lines are widely used to add depth and show directional sense..

It is even used in conjunction with the horizontal hatching lines

Horizontal and Straight are combined to form a texture and produce depth in a drawing

Diagonal Hatching Lines

The diagonal hatching lines are mostly used in shading. They are more dynamic in nature than the straight and horizontal hatching lines.

Even the diagonal lines can be used in combination with the prior to create a darker texture.

Tone Scraping or Dot dot dot

The dot dot dot method or Tone scraping it's use to create tones and textures.

It is well used to define ground elements and flat textures

Broken wallet.... I mean Broken Streamlines

I think it's everyone's favorite? no?

Well it's like the Straight and Horizontal lines but broken (like my wallet)

Mostly used for clothing definition or woody surfaces... and wool sweaters?

Well maybe

Squiggly scratch lines

Congratulations you've endured it to the very end. Yes, very end not the end yet.

This does have use though I don't know where specifically!

I never used it in my manga though.

However that ends the Inking basic textures

Things to Remember

  • Most drawing shape are basic.

  • Complex shapes are combination of various shapes and perspective on you understand that you can master inking and lineart easily

  • Keep practicing...

Here's a Bonus. Try inking it Yourself to see how far you understood from this tutorial

I already did small part of the line weights.

You're Welcome
